Measles is back in the United States, and that should concern every parent, clinician, educator, and community member.
In this video, I walk through what measles actually does, why falling vaccination coverage matters, and how we got here. But I also go further back, through the history of polio, measles, mumps, hepatitis B, diphtheria, pertussis, Hib, and rubella, to talk about the scientists, parents, trial volunteers, and public health workers who helped turn once-routine childhood devastation into something many of us no longer have to see.
This is not about blind faith. It’s about memory, evidence, and what happens when prevention stops being treated like a shared responsibility. Vaccines did not make these diseases disappear by magic. People built systems, did the work, ran the trials, made the vaccines, and chose to use them. That is what gave children a more normal life.
If you have kids, check their vaccine records. If you’re an adult and you’re unsure of your status, ask your clinician. And if this video resonates with you, share it with one person you care about.
