We must not forget! I thought back to my father, Dr. James L. Wilson, a pediatrician and professor, who in the 30’s as a young doctor at Boston Children’s Hospital helped develop a machine called an “Iron Lung,” a tank-like device that kept people with the terrible paralytic disease called polio breathing.

What my father wrote in his 1932 paper on lung failure in polio patients echoes: “Of all the experiences that the physician must undergo, none can be more distressing than to watch respiratory paralysis in a child ill with poliomyelitis — to watch him as he becomes more and more dyspneic, using with increasing vigor every available accessory muscle of neck, shoulder and chin, silent wasting no breath for speech, wide-eyed and frightened, conscious almost to the last breath.”

Thank you Shanley. I’m going to share this with anti vaxxers I know.

It’s nice to be able to see a face with a name! You’re lovely.

Very powerful - and terrifying. It's hard to believe that the antivaxxers weren't just a small fringe, but a large group of nuts held back only by school and state mandates.

Elizabeth Breunig wrote an article in February in _The Atlantic_ entitled "This is How a Child Dies of Measles," which was chilling and frightening and saddening. I'm sure many of us will find ourselves in the paradoxical position of weeping with, and comforting, loved ones over the deaths of their precious unvaccinated children while at the same time choking back the thought that those deaths were completely preventable by the very people whose profound sorrow we are sharing and trying to ameliorate.

Great video!

Sadly there are too many people left in this world that remember these diseases and the damage and loss they caused.
