We can pretend nothing is happening but like the ostrich whose head is in the sand, we will find ourselves looking up to find another war, another grind of death, another reason to exploit our young men and women in uniform - not because their country needs them but because the oligarchs want their hands on the oil. Shame Shame Shame.

I'm sick too. A war abroad distracts from problems at home.

Mary, having experienced similar feelings over a brother that came back from Vietnam with a host of issues and have watched as young men and women were sent to protect the oligarchs’ access to another country’s natural resources, I object! Another generation of veterans that are considered “cannon fodder” and return home to a poorly functioning VA as thanks for your service.

With my first cuppa tea of the morning, I enjoyed a mental image of you buying an oversized plushie for Marz. After waking up from another sleep, I read this and felt deeply sad.

When my brother came out of his room and I told him about it in a somber voice, his reaction was: “It’s only Venezuela.” I’m living with a fucking sociopath.

He’s now just said “They probably thought the ship had drugs on it”. When I objected angrily he accused me of “going down the conspiracy rabbit-hole”. I’m living with an unfathomably stupid fucking sociopath.

Going back to bed.

I hope your brother is not draft age. I don’t wish this conflict on anybody American or Venezuelan. Are you listening Congress? Are you listening John Roberts and your partners in crime? Everyone knows by now that Trump is dealing with mental and physical issues. Is your salary and pension and 401k worth the lives that will be lost?

I’m thankful for small mercies: my brother is 55 and we live in New Zealand.

We both keep up with news coming from America, but he relies on legacy media and a few YouTube channels whereas I read proper analyses by smart people. He never went to University and I’m a lawyer.

He IS a sociopath. A diagnosed sociopath. We go to movies and he laughs at the violence while I cover my eyes. He lives with me because he can’t look after himself and has no one else.

I acknowledge your righteous anger about what’s happening in your country. My brother keeps reminding me that we’re way down here so it doesn’t affect us. Maybe it doesn’t just now, but I’m allowed to be horrified, furious, worried and sad about what goes on elsewhere in the world.

I hope with all my heart that the right-thinking folks in America are successful in standing up to this authoritarian regime. I believe in you guys.

Sending love to all of you through the Ether. ❤️

Further nausea from the orange chimp threatening the ICC that he, SecDUI and some of his top stooges be immune from prosecution or the court will face sanctions. Does he think they are our corrupt SCOTUS ??

I'm sorry for the personal pain war has caused Mary. I'm glad Mary is around to warn and/or remind us what's going on now.

MAGA faithful have an answer for everything. They are shamelessly inconsistent and incoherent. Not unlike the current Supreme Court majority. All that matters is to defend and advance the prevailing MAGA narrative and agenda however absurd.

It’s challenging to remember Trump loyalists are a minority. Those who are not rabidly faithful to Trump are still open to what their eyes and ears and experience tell them.

Mary does the hard, agonizing work of documenting every day of the Trump regime’s coup and Trump operatives’ breathtaking corruption.

Every time each of us spreads the word and voices our opposition is one more act of resistance that adds to others. It’s up to us ordinary folks not to turn away and pretend any of this is normal or safe for our futures.

Anyone who has lived through any of the manufactured wars in which this country has engaged can feel the noose tightening. DJT needs a war in order to legitimize cancelling the 2026 elections that the Republicans are very likely to loose. Venezuela will be that manufactured war.

Mary, your angst should be the impetus for all to resist this militarism. War is loss. War is sadness.

We are wading into war. So, I offer, again, Eisenhower’s timeless quote:

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed"

Wars impose harsh opportunity costs.

There is no nobility of purpose in this current enterprise. What moral outrage, narco terrorism is contrived greatly.. There has been no serious effort to remedy peacefully what grievance or harm that may have been inflicted upon us. Nothing Venezuela has done poses an existential threat to the Homeland or our vital interests. It is contrived for one reason. Hegemonic ambition and future exploitation of mineral wealth.

It is time for a somnolent GOP to call bullshit in no uncertain terms. It is really time to impeach this Administration in full.
