His unforced war with Iran is already driving up economic risk, scrambling alliances, and exposing the kakistocracy behind America’s collapsing statecraft.
The "blockade" was always a ludicrous idea. What was the US navy going to do? Sink a French or British tanker when they refused to stop? What a joke of an administration.
It is important to get into the mind of a stable genius. If a blockade is a good thing, then a blockade of a blockade is better. On a more serious note it looks like the military is working hard to take the Trump/Hegseth lunacy and modify it to reduce the risk of major power confrontation and risk to our ships and personnel. I know from having served with the State Department in Dhahran, that the U.S. Navy has always been leery about bottling up warships in the Strait. We (the public) don't know what weapons the Chinese and Russians are providing Iran, but suffice it to say i would not want my loved ones (or any US service personnel for that matter) on a naval vessel in the Strait (or near it) particularly given Trump's insanity.
Not only is Mary’s writing a treasure, she provides context and analysis based on evidence and reason, including likely-to-inevitable consequences. This is what superb journalism is intended to do.
Compare legacy media: their headline stories focus on how many inches the Titanic sank last night without noting the damage the ship suffered makes recovery impossible. That isn’t “opinion”, it’s a logical conclusion based on facts. Even if hedged, an intelligent assessment of what events portend is part of a journalist’s job. In these chaotic times with madness in the halls of power, excellent journalism is needed more than ever.
I especially appreciated her report on immigration detention center abuses. The notion of crimes against humanity applied to our country is becoming less implausible every day.
The entire fiasco is made worse by knowing that we have a military who would support this failing regime. They should know better than those elected since they went to a specific college just to learn about this kind of thing. Those elected are getting extra money for being "at the right place at the right time"; what a great time to be in office, all you have to do is keep quiet and tell the dear leader, "I love you" in public if he said anything at all that cast aspersions. Oh, and let's not forget the insider tips prior to the stupid presidential pronouncements which also provide perks . For Love or Money, used to be a saying as to why you would or wouldn't do something. I guess we all know how that turned out.
Vance’s statement regarding Trumps attack of the pope as just a disagreement reminds me of Leavitt. Trump is simply “transparent “ disagreement happen and that’s good. The Pope should focus on the church and let the president focus on politics. Not an exact quote. I was too nauseous to remember every word.
Question my own laughter reading the sadist reality hit on its head…the percentages of people still riding that cadtail I’m glad now knowing, doesn’t require a pardon.
We have a system to haul up and clean up.
The systems of checks and balance improved , restored, codified.
It’s never going to be something we rest laurels on.
I am so sick of the incompetence, the lies and the pure idiocy. It's mind blowing to me that our elected officials have neither the will nor the understanding that this one man is destroying the world. Whether we recover from this mess, only time will tell. But time is running out and I really don't want to read history books on the fall of the American empire.

It's already falling apart. Ships are getting through.

Thank you, Mary (and Shanley) (and Marz)!
I second that emotion... ;-)

Trump is the greatest negotiator ever-- just ask one of his multiple personalities:

Bravo!
And the congressional republicans continue to cheer it on - all of it.
Now I'm going to shout.
THIS IS ALL ON THE REPUBLICANS. THE REPUBLICANS ARE DESTROYING THE U.S.

I love you enough to stay this course..

I wonder when ICE will set up their own Neue Theresienstadt for visitors??
