Sadly we have all been sucked into the "hallucination bubble" by proxy, at every level of life in our nation. At a coffee shop this weekend, a delightful elderly couple commented on our chocolate lab snoring between our tables. The 84 year old gentleman disclosed that he was going to retire from teaching global economics at The University of Missouri because after 50 years "they"were dictating what couldn't be said in class in and in the syllabus. "You've graduated some pretty smart people who are out there doing the work." said his wife. Under his very bushy eyebrows I could swear his eyes were teary. More and more my husband and I have come to rely on you, Mary and other daily smart, reliable newsletter writers, to suss out the facts, the truth, the timing, the nuance of this time in our country. I read to my husband the clarification of our threatening "blockade" by the maritime shipping expert quoted in your newsletter this morning. "Where'd you read that?" he asked. Mary Geddry's newsletter this morning. So, thank you. For being our eyes, ears, oxygen and insight daily as we brace ourselves for more chaos and its consequences.
Thanks as always, Mary!! I took note that Orban accepted the election results and relinquished the position of leader of Hungary. I'm delighted that Pope Leo is speaking out and I do wonder about people who are both Catholic and trumpist ... are they feeling like they need to choose? I hope Pope Leo pushes on that. Cannot yet fathom what's up with Melania but I'm curious to see what she was attempting to do with that speech. Since trump claims America doesn't need oil from the Middle East, for the duration of war/negotiations I'd like to see Iran allow all other ships thru with a reasonable toll (to rebuild infrastructure for Iranians) but refuse access only to USA? I am so impressed with President Zelenskyy and hope he wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Congrats to Marjorie Taylor Greene for having the courage to publicly change her beliefs and speak out. Wonder what today will bring. Love reading the Geddry essays and then all the comments!!!
I’d like to hear what Vance, the Catholic, has to say about this. I’m sure the hypocrite will support him. I’m not religious but I have no problem saying that he and anyone who supports him will go to hell. No stopping in purgatory. Straight to hell!
Donald Trump is throwing Vance under the proverbial bus by giving him responsibility for the Iran negotiations -- an impossible task to begin with-- and then pretending he’s just an interested bystander. Vance has no real authority b/c he still has to check in for the boss man's approval.
Meanwhile, Trump is chillin' ringside with Sec of State Marco Rubio at an MMA cage fight --putting Vance's frantic calls on hold while he basks in the testosterone fueled adulation.
Trump made this mess, tossed the grenade to Vance, and then made sure he’s standing far away before it explodes. Maybe he's setting up Rubio for 2028?
Love and gratitude for your brilliant truth telling courage!
"a national information system being slowly turned into a billionaire petting zoo." Beautiful!
“A flaming circus of narcissism” that’s our president in a nutshell.
My Dear Mr. President:
Pope Leo has the Prince of Peace in his corner. Only a world class buffoon would attempt publicly to piss him off.
Regrets.
"cool, devastating papal side-eye" absolutely makes my day, Mary. Thanks!
Monbeam vigil right back at ya. :)
Thanks again for your beautiful writing.
I love your commentary.....in the UK, we look and watch the US dive down into the shit....sending love
Excellent observations and analyses. We appreciate you.

Yes, and Rubio too. Neither has commented yet - and both will likely dodge the issue. If there is a hell, it's going to be crowded down there!
“ It is the sort of contrast that makes the ketchup tremble in the bottle.” 😆
Sums it up nicely, thanks.
