Secretary of Testosterone is perfect. It doesn't seem to occur to him that all those videos with spliced pop culture stuff appeal to precisely the class that will find their boots on the ground should the draft, being trial ballooned by assorted officials, is actually reinstated. Perhaps he's hoping to get them to volunteer to be the boots. I'm not sure he's clear about the difference between actual macho and performative macho.

"Trump has always rambled. What felt different here was the texture of the ramble. It was not merely loose; it was compulsive, repetitive, detached from context..."

Many psychiatrists are saying Trump is exhibiting all the symptoms of frontal Temporal Dementia and it's only going to get worse:

The asymmetry of this war is not only in equipment and firepower, but also in Trump's stupidity and the Iranian's guile. The Iranian's superiority in drone warfare and economic targeting is strategically being executed as Trump sinks himself (and us) into an escalating quagmire. This war is already echoing VietNam.

As Trump's word salading proclamations become more kaleidoscopic and unhinged, the Iranians must feel more emboldened. They are dug in for their very survival for the long haul. All of the cold, hard indicators of reality suggest we are being let into a snake pit by a Mr. Magoo who is so deluded that only chaos and mayhem will explode as we sink deeper into this crevasse.

You remind me of how the Battle of Hamburg succeeded in creating 2 million + refugees, missed the U-Boot factories (its target), and killed 50,000 people, all in the single (working class) voting district in all of Hitler's Germany that never voted for Hitler, even when it was virtually the law to do so (and everyone else did). The same brilliance is playing out again.

curated fishbowl!!! reading your stuff is like prospecting a river of gold, nuggets all over the place.

BTW - seriously pissing off is that the suggestion that the usa jumped into save the world - in both world wars

in fact they delayed years .... and yes, while the nazis killed in the UK 40,000 during the blitz - crickets from the usa defenders of freedom - kind of close to gaza slaughter -

the pivotal battle was kursk, where russians flattened the nazis -- and suddenly the allies had to save europe not from the nazis, but from russia - we even invaded russia to strangle the bolshevik babe in its crib.

never reported, but a third atomic bomb was ready to go launched from the northern japanese island 30miles from russia - which is also why japan surrendered - every japanese city had already been fire-bombed to total destruction - so the A bombs were not some new horror forcing surrender - but russian advances meant that both japan and american joined with the same objective.
