Trump’s cabinet meeting was supposed to project strength. It looked like a presidency running on propaganda, grievance, and a man who may be losing the ability to hide what’s happening in plain sight.
Secretary of Testosterone is perfect. It doesn't seem to occur to him that all those videos with spliced pop culture stuff appeal to precisely the class that will find their boots on the ground should the draft, being trial ballooned by assorted officials, is actually reinstated. Perhaps he's hoping to get them to volunteer to be the boots. I'm not sure he's clear about the difference between actual macho and performative macho.
"Trump has always rambled. What felt different here was the texture of the ramble. It was not merely loose; it was compulsive, repetitive, detached from context..."
Many psychiatrists are saying Trump is exhibiting all the symptoms of frontal Temporal Dementia and it's only going to get worse:
Who and where is the Resistance Movement? There seems to be lots of agreement that trump is not of sound mind. There’s no way to stop this runaway train? There’s no possibility of intervention? There’s no international law enforcement, no national law enforcement to step in and arrest the perpetrators? Omg, there are still people in prison for breaking marijuana laws that aren’t even in effect anymore. And there’s no tipping point for this daily insanity that’s ruining lives all over the globe … the world is just going to keep watching like it’s a Netflix series??? We fought hard to contain and conquer the pandemic just a few years ago. Trump needs to be contained and conquered now … now!! I refuse to accept that there’s no way to accomplish that. Where there’s a will there’s a way!
Even as an outsider, I keep asking myself the same thing - when will the Congressional Republicans come to recognise Trump as the catastrophic liability (even to their own careers) that the rest of of the world can see? We surely passed that moment ages ago. It’s baffling. Can they all be acolytes? All filling their coffers while the country and the world burns? Or is this the sunk-cost fallacy in action?
curated fishbowl!!! reading your stuff is like prospecting a river of gold, nuggets all over the place.
BTW - seriously pissing off is that the suggestion that the usa jumped into save the world - in both world wars
in fact they delayed years .... and yes, while the nazis killed in the UK 40,000 during the blitz - crickets from the usa defenders of freedom - kind of close to gaza slaughter -
the pivotal battle was kursk, where russians flattened the nazis -- and suddenly the allies had to save europe not from the nazis, but from russia - we even invaded russia to strangle the bolshevik babe in its crib.
never reported, but a third atomic bomb was ready to go launched from the northern japanese island 30miles from russia - which is also why japan surrendered - every japanese city had already been fire-bombed to total destruction - so the A bombs were not some new horror forcing surrender - but russian advances meant that both japan and american joined with the same objective.
The asymmetry of this war is not only in equipment and firepower, but also in Trump's stupidity and the Iranian's guile. The Iranian's superiority in drone warfare and economic targeting is strategically being executed as Trump sinks himself (and us) into an escalating quagmire. This war is already echoing VietNam.
As Trump's word salading proclamations become more kaleidoscopic and unhinged, the Iranians must feel more emboldened. They are dug in for their very survival for the long haul. All of the cold, hard indicators of reality suggest we are being let into a snake pit by a Mr. Magoo who is so deluded that only chaos and mayhem will explode as we sink deeper into this crevasse.
You remind me of how the Battle of Hamburg succeeded in creating 2 million + refugees, missed the U-Boot factories (its target), and killed 50,000 people, all in the single (working class) voting district in all of Hitler's Germany that never voted for Hitler, even when it was virtually the law to do so (and everyone else did). The same brilliance is playing out again.
Just imagine for a moment that it was Joe Biden sitting where Trump is and uttering the same word salads. What would the main stream media be saying, broadcast and on-line/print?
I think we all know because they were all saying it in the later stages of Biden's presidency. Where are they all now? Where is Jake Tapper rushing out a book about Trump's senior aides concealing his serious cognitive and physical decline which are clear to see for all? It's all pretty shameful on their parts.
I worked in Assisted Living, Memory Care for four years as a volunteer. One of the telling symptoms, especially early in memory disease, is repeating the same stories and incidents again and again just about every time they engage in a verbal exchange.
One thing that is conveniently ignored about the Howling Orange Shitgibbon is that he's been on uppers of one sort or another since the '80s...Coke, Meth, Adderall. Another thing that Jeffery Epstein was good at providing for. He's as hopped up now as he was then.

I got a chuckle out of that too Susan and your “boots on the ground” a huge HELLO .. stark reality!

Important to hear behavior and outcomes of UAE.

"...what amounts to human packing peanuts" that's some fine imagery

I’ve been agonizing over why this is happening. With all of the supposed checks and balances of American democracy why is this happening?
Excellent piece. Thank you.
Every time you printed drift ..I read grift…for ‘the little boy who cried wolf’ the story ‘s ending tells it all.
