Right on, Shanley! As a career Air Force pilot (male) and then a second career airline Captain, I have worked with, and for, lots of women. They are every bit as capable as the men who perform the same jobs (if not more capable). Your examples from history easily support my statement. There is one group of women who are seldom celebrated for their contribution to the World War II cause--the WASPs. The Women's Air Service Pilots deserve a place in history. These women were recruited and trained to fly all types of airplanes in order to ferry the airplanes from the continental U.S. to Europe. The route left Goose Bay, Labrador, then to Greenland, then to Iceland, and finally to bases in England. More than 15,000 planes were delivered on this route, a large number of them flown by the WASPs. The WASPs were not permitted to join the military, thereby getting paid less with no pension or other benefit. The route that they flew was extremely hazardous--no place to land except the refuel stops, no hope of rescue if they had to ditch in the North Atlantic. Despite all the hazards, their record was exemplary. Anyone who thinks Project 2025 is a good idea is obviously not a female--he is also not much of a male, either.
Excellent writing! I don’t know where to start as my thoughts are bursting! First, why is there always a backlash against single mothers? Nobody asks just where are the fathers of their children? Another thing, I feel badly for the babies who are born for gay male marriages! No nurturing mother! It’s probably better to have any mother than to not have a mother in your life as a growing human.
So many things come to my mind, so, I best just say, thank you, Mary, for your stimulating essays.
I was a 'poor single mom' raising 2 girls alone through their school years. Both graduated top of their class. I remember a parent telling me I 'did a great job...considering' 🙄 You're right, nobody asked why their father abandoned us. We were much happier without him.
I have to disagree about babies with gay male parents, tho. I know many nurturing men nowdays, my son-in-law was a stay-at-home dad through the preschool years and it was good for all of them😊
Ms. Geddry - There is a new 168 page document that the heritage foundation put out. I'm not sure if you're referring to it in your your sub stack, but it is pretty horrific and out does the original 2025 demands on women. You can download it here:
Scott Yenor is a weak and pitiful man who can't stand on his own without dunning others. He is a poor excuse for a person and a man. Snowflake may be a better term. My daughters and my wife are fiercely independent and I have never been happier for that. The world is a better place with them in it. Thank you to ALL women for your courageousness, your intellect and your ability to push on when so many others try to hold you down.
We've started wars in countries where part of the 'mission' was that we wanted to give repressed women freedom to drive, go to school, choose their own clothing, etc. I wonder where the line would be in America ... back to the mid-20th century when women couldn't have credit cards or own property or will it go all the way back to women not being able to vote? Who will decide which rules America will adopt? What will penalty be for failure to comply? Of course, there will be more domestic violence ... rape and beatings. I'm thinking women will need to lose gun and social media 'privileges'.
I hope Elon Musk gets the new community established on Mars very soon 'cause these men are gonna need someplace to move to!!! Stupid idiots!!!
In a cynical language twist, Sen. Josh Hawley has introduced legislation titled the "Safeguarding Women from Chemical Abortion Act" to make mifepristone illegal which would make telehealth abortions illegal. We have similar legislation in KY. So the Project 2025 bullies are still working to keep women down.
Absolutely "like" and appreciate the shout out for the social and institutional utility of women. Still, I'd like to add just one more thing: the Mother and Child relationship. For all this and for one of the most important roles a woman, and only a woman can do, is that they are where people first learn what "Love" is. This is not to say that men cannot do that, it's just that the concept of where you get that first lesson depends on a woman. Spending 9 months getting to know a person, the breathing patterns, of a new environment, consciousness awakening, to physically feel how that breathing changes at certain times, soft, gentle? In the soft sounds of satisfaction, love, the music of a voice. The movement as she goes about her daily life. The muffled voices of others. A developing child may note in volume, along with breathing what makes the environment pleasant, But the voice that keeps you warm and nourished is what keeps baby content. It produces love if love is given. Yes, if that baby hears love from one male voice in particular, it associates that and incorporates it. That baby knows what love is because it can recognize love before birth. Love is the most important motivating force in the world if we want harmony. I, like you, had that experience of love and it colors my life.
Thank you, Shanley. What infuriates me most is that some women agree with this and have willingly signed on to be Stepford Wives. Outrageous!

I started teaching my daughters to
never be dependent on a man or another woman
So why do so many women vote for this?

Co-authored by a woman. 🙄
In addition to that irony/hypocrisy there is the hypocrisy that Scott Yenor’s own wife is employed outside the home.
These folks should really line up their own ducks before stepping into the shooting gallery.

What an amazing essay. Thank you Shanley.
