He came, he saw, he said what he needed to. The King did what he could and a lot of it was subtle enough that it probably went over the heads of many. As a Brit I am proud.

Elegantly written and impactful, Mary.

The speech, however diplomatic, educated and subtle, likely fell on ignorant and deaf ears for the one it was intended.

Sadness oppresses.

I doubt MAGA’s inner circle and enablers care about the King’s concerns and perspective. Their strategy is intimidation and provocation. For example, they are milking a security breach at the intended parameter to justify brazen, hypocritical attacks on free speech and a scam to take billionaire money for the “ballroom” and charge taxpayers for it anyway.

If I were a betting person, I’d say their tactics will escalate to create a Reichstag event - an excuse to abandon even a show of fidelity to the Constitution and rule of law. They know Americans aren’t primed to react violently, and if we do, they can deem us enemies within - as they already have, just without follow-up action.

I hope I’m wrong.

I love this line: “A king walked into Congress and gave a lecture on why kings don’t run things anymore.”
