Your tribute to Jackie left my husband in tears. Everything you wrote from the heart with great eloquence and feeling captures what many thousands are feeling on this sad day. The devotion and care these two magnificent eagles shared for their babies was pure, natural good. The world witnessed their instincts to love and protect and were reminded that goodness is real and for us to choose.

Thanks so much for the beautiful tribute to Jackie the Eagle. Your words on her legacy remind us of what we must all keep fighting for. As to the rest, nothing that Trump starts will end well, if it ever completes at all. Our votes can help that process. Primaries happening now!

I very much appreciated your remarks about Jackie. I will never forget that winter morning when I turned on the computer and the camera on the nest showed a tremendous pile of snow. Suddenly it began to move, and Jackie’s white head poked through and then her back, and then the rest of her. She stood there, shaking it off all that snow to take a look at the two eaglets beneath her. Such dedication and determination to care for her young continues to stay with me. It was a joy and a pleasure watching her and Shadow, Sunny and Gizmo, Luna and Sandy. The kids have left the nest and Shadow remains, and we hope to see him back on the nest with another partner some day. it has truly been a great pleasure these last two years, watching this wild family.

Thank you for your writing about Jackie. She first came into my life in 2020 during the pandemic. Everyday since she has filled my life with love, knowledge, comedy and learning how to live in the moment and understand life better. I loved this pair of eagles, Jackie and Shadow, and now I know life will continue for Shadow. But it still hurts not to see Jackie again. With tears I'm loving her memory.

When I had an underground leak some years ago, they sent a camera through the line and found the spot where the pipe was broken. I don't know anymore details than that ... I was in the kitchen the whole time wringing my hands about how much it was going to cost and could I afford it. Gosh, there were so many of those times. And somehow it all got handled. You are now a wife, mother, and homeowner. Your future is day after day, event after event of joy, fear, sadness, excitement, pride, hard work, laughter, prayers, exhaustion, heart bursting love, heart breaking grief, healing, forgiving, hugging ... and that is a rich, full life. I hope you write it all down and share some more bits of it with us.

Thanks so much for introducing us to your family and the Eagle! And letting us know about fing trumps weird offer of $$$$, that’s untrustworthy ! I just want ice to go far far away… like outer space! They are cruel and killers! We also have pregnant girls being raped there! Ice is a bunch of Pediphiles like a lot of the republican men!?

Mid terms hurry up so we can get rid of these horrible men!

Your water-running is an excellent analogy to life today. What's scary is that the vast majority of us go about the sane option of fixing things just the way you describe how your family dynamics approach issues. Can any problems be fixed without sanity?

Spot on for the political thoughts. Regarding water leak - perhaps a neighbor is “sharing” your line…..

You probably know about it, but the are people who have very interesting devices that will find leaks--by sound at first, but if that doesn't work they can actually use helium. It is somewhat expensive but may be worth it.

Hi, Shanley -

Whenever I'm exhausted from sifting through the day's accumulation of dross and I see "The Homefront Report" I'm reminded of that REO Speedwagon lyric: "a candle in the window on a cold, dark winter's night."

Thanks so much for these delightful (and exceedingly well-written) insights into the goings-on at your little PNW version of Lake Wobegon. Please keep them coming.

I had not heard about this new initiative for ‘safe’ cities and while reading what you have written about it the images and thoughts I had were dystopian in nature. Sounds like an ideal society on the surface but scratch a bit and the underneath reveals great suffering and injustice.

So sad to hear about Jackie. Her memory, and her and Shadow's young, will live on, I am sure.

And then on to the latest scam - for I am confident that if any city takes up this offer, somewhere in the future there will be a 'problem' that means that the money will have to be repaid. This regime offers nothing where there is not a repayment or some other form of punishment at the end of it.

Good luck with your water supply problem!
