I talked to Mitch McConnell for 20 minutes and he said that he's totally aligned with democracy, voting rights for all, accurate voter rolls. Because he's on his deathbed. C'mon St. Peter. Let me in, please.

Excellent summary and explanation, Shanley! You may have never imagined yourself as a writer once, but your gift for it is undeniable, especially in the pieces you write where you weave things like invasive vines at home into an analogy for issues we all face. Thank you so much for your contributions!

Can’t get the SAVE ACT passed? Dismiss the election assistance department then call the elections rigged because the states cheated. It’s beyond my capabilities to understand why so many people, both civilian and government officials let this go on. Evil murderous humans have managed to destroy America’s system of checks and balances.

Voting has Consequences…

When the Secretary of State in Ohio, Frank LaRose that has turned over all voter records to the regime wouldn’t expect anything different..

Just to be informed Frank LaRose has already turned over to the Justice Department for all of us in Ohio a complete, unredacted voter-registration databases containing information such as birth dates, driver’s-license numbers and partial Social Security numbers.

It’s the complicity of falling in line and disregarding the integrity of our elections, the process and totally aimed at undermining voter confidence…

Frank LaRose term ends January 11. 2027. He is running for election for Ohio Auditor of State. The auditor of state serves as a watchdog, ensuring the state of Ohio and its more than 5,600 entities are using resources efficiently and effectively. Frank LaRose isn’t qualified to audit the waste product being expelled from the backend of a cow…

In a statement, Ohio Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose defended the Justice Department’s missive to states, saying it’s reminding them of their legal obligation regarding election integrity. A lot of states aren’t taking it seriously, he said without giving examples or citing evidence. He said Ohio has worked with the federal government to ensure that its voter rolls are accurate and that only U.S. citizens vote.

When I heard this news in Mary’s roundup I have to say I was incredibly alarmed. Shanley, you say that state officials advise that the dismantling of this agency will not prevent elections from proceeding as usual. That is reassuring….but why do I feel as though another shoe is about to drop? Or, to state my fear more accurately, another and another until the American people are all trying to get out from under the authoritarian heels that are crushing them.

I’m gonna throw this wild idea out there……could it be that if Trump can’t get the SAVE Act passed that the administration will slowly dismantle the infrastructure that supports elections? That this infrastructure will be rendered so degraded that there simply won’t be an election? I understand that elections are held by the State but is there a mechanism by which the federal government can reject election results? Or perhaps the dismantling of that mechanism would make it impossible to accept election results?

As a Canadian I don’t know the answer to these questions but I am sufficiently alarmed to ask them. After all, Trump is not fortifying the entrance to the White House for purely aesthetic reasons and I can’t help but think this is in anticipation of a pre or post election uprising.

Again--as always--a strong, beautiful statement of the case--and a reminder of why these commissions and rules and laws are there in the first place. And again (again) Trump's actions are making it clear that, despite hundreds of years of history and the clear words of the Constitution, we are going to have fight every inch of the way this November to see anything like a free and fair election... Every time he usurps the original powers of the courts and Congress, I keep hoping that these two branches of government will take back their Constitutional powers--but what I see is the opposite: A further, avalanche-like destruction of what made this country a democracy in the first place.

It's hard to maintain hope when every time Trump eliminates another one of the peoples' powers the only response is pure silence, or even collaboration, from the current controllers of the other branch of government--the branch that was always intended to be the most democratic...

I was on the radio for almost 40 years and I couldn't have gotten through one show with knowing that what I said was protected by The First Amendment... To see it trampled and torn to shreds by the current dictator and minions would be, for a religious person, like seeing their house of worship burned down and the local firemen ordered to standing around and do nothing to save it. This pure and simple Nazi-ism and I'm constantly astounded that the elected representatives are standing around shaking in their boots, while trump sets fire to the whole building... If I gave legitimacy and approval to every nutty dream or urge I had, my life and the lives of people around me would descend into chaos... This is happening right now to this country--and I am completely astonished and appalled...
