Today was enuf of a tipping point that we finally had some influential people and elected reps in Senate and Congress saying it's time to implement the 25th Amendment (remove trump from presidency due to disability). What's interesting and beneficial for voters to know is which politicians actually did that. I heard mid afternoon that Hakeem Jefferies and Chuck Schumer did NOT call for 25th Amendment. Mike Johnson did not call for Congress to reconvene in this global emergency. I heard it mentioned that one would have thot every elected Dem should have been on the steps of White House demanding loudly that trump be removed or impeached. To me this would have been the silver lining to todays big black looming cloud ... the opportunity to use this flashpoint while it's hot to get that nut case out of the oval office.
As I understand it, the 25th Amendment can only be invoked by the vice president or members of the cabinet. Good luck there. I hope I am wrong about who can invoke that Amendment. And Trump’s medical records are protected by HIPPA. I am afraid we will realize that the alternatives for removing Trump have been severely and purposefully limited. Perhaps placing an unpopular and weak stooge such as JD Vance into the presidency has been the plan of the Heritage Foundation all along, and they judged that Trump would not survive his presidency for one reason or another.
Be that as it may, our immediate situation I believe to be similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis, with real possibilities of escalation into use of nuclear weapons. However, this time, it is our president (he doesn’t deserve capitalization) not a McNamara, who poses the threat of catastrophic escalation. I wish I knew what safeguards we have here in 2026. Generals? Retired generals? Military committed to their oaths? And at the cost of democratic governance? While we cannot place hope in elections that are months away to limit Trump’s powers in the immediate situation, the authors of Project 2025 and Trump himself of course, cannot and will not accept loss of power a year from now. Threats to any and all future elections are obvious. We must all do whatever we can do. Personally, I plan to become a poll worker and legal observer, but our remaining elected Representatives and Senators whom we believe to be of integrity must be continuously told that we depend on them to rise to the moment. True patriotism and ethics must “trump” political position. That’s the faith we placed in them when we elected them to represent us.
