I was particularly enjoying your unraveling of Trump unraveling this morning; until you mentioned the tragedy of Wael Tarabishi. I was immediately brought back to the reality that this regime not only can destroy things on a grand scale, it can also kill us one at a time... in private. Destroying American Culture, as awful and emotionally destructive as it is, is not permanent. Erasing lives is, and we need to know about everyone who is gone so they will not be forgotten.

The day we stop laughing is the day we die, and one of the best ways to do that is thru satire and mockery. Luckily this week presented us the perfect gift for mockery --MELANIA --the worst propaganda film since Leni Riefenstahl's propaganda films for Hitler.
Trumps response to criticism and the culture by shutting down the Kennedy Center is classic. I am sure that he destroyed the East Wing because he was so upset over the No Kings demonstrations in every corner of the country! The guy has absolutely zero impulse control. Now I worry about the next No Kings….will it be the West Wing?? The Capitol?? Lincoln Memorial?? 😳 I fear for our institutions! Thank you for your articulate and insightful essays!!
Kara Swisher's podcast "On, with Kara Swisher", has most recently had a long interview with Ben Collins, who owns The Onion, with interesting comments about political humor and how to "cover" Trump. They point out that Trump tries to use humor but he has no actual sense of humor himself, just cruelty and mockery, but like all authoritarians, he hates being made fun of.
