Perhaps the American Empire is in decline because all of humanity is having an existential
crisis. We blame each other for what we don't like, don't understand, yet what we fear most is rejection, isolation, abandonment. What we want most is acceptance, friendship, respect and mutual support. There was a time when human kind shared the common belief (call it "common sense") that all of life was (and still is) connected, that humans and animals and plants and wind, moon, stars, rivers, oceans all communed as one glorious world inviting extraordinary adventures in exploration and discovery. Then came the bizarre split; Politics, consumerism, religion, regulations, science and all our perceived notions built on layers of thought that believes we are separate from Nature. It's only natural that we are experiencing a state of conflicting realities.
If we ever need actual governance at the national level, like in a real emergency, we’re doomed. Delusion only works if reality doesn’t need a competent response. The current regime cannot function. They are worse than not “serious people” - they’re wholly unfit for adult responsibilities. Really, how can this country continue on the current path of dangerous decline for 3.5 more years?
I watched Chris Norlund's live stream of Tesla's earnings call. He gave some pretty good commentary live, as well. You could literally see TSLA stock tanking in after-market trading during the call.
“Be seeing you” was the stock parting phrase in 1966 British series, The Prisoner.
Number Six, played by Patrick McGoohan, had been “disappeared” from his London flat and taken to “The Village” where lots of weird people, who had also been “disappeared”, remained silent about their past lives, were referred to only by numbers and pretended to be content.
Perhaps the “Be seeing you” in the quote was a nod… nah!

I’m a believer, Mary. You are my “religion with comment section”.
Remind me never to inspire your scorn!

The kitten picture was helpful as I considered the lack of awareness suffered by these people.
Thank you for the insight too.

You have become one of my favorite writers. Thank you for your cogent take on our crazy country.
