So nice to have some good morning news! Now how about the billions being given to the peace board or the IRS lawsuit? Oh and citizens’ constitutional rights and justice for their murders? And the people wrongfully in detention? I know…take the win, keep fighting for the rest…I truly am happy and grateful that SCOTUS found the guts to do their job.

Giddy is not good enough an emotion. Granted, there are ways around this and he'll find them like a dog who was told not to roll in something and then quickly finds another dead mouse to plunge into. The big question... who or how is the money going to go back to the "overcharged" companies/consumers. Are the corporations just going to get the money back, enriching themselves but not the consumer? Or, do prices comedown because of the windfall. Methinks NOTHING will happen as Trump will just try to run out the clock. Which clock? No one knows but he'll try. Meanwhile, we continue to pay for this crap.

If only there had been competent White House Counsel advise and legislative assessment this whole debacle could have been prevented. Will the American public ever get their money back? Highly unlikely. This whole corrupt administration has to go asap.

It's a great day for the people when SCOTUS does its job! Rejoice and hope for more to come our way in their walled off sanctuary of power. Power to the people! Maybe in some ways the people led Barrett and Gorsage to their joining in the 6/3 decision . Hallelujah ! Saint's be praised! Whenever he (45) is deflected by a greater power, it's a day for smiles.

Best news I've heard in a long time.

My Dear Mr. President:

I suspect you were dumbfounded by the United States Supreme Court’s recent decision to declare the tariffs you imposed on our world-wide trading partners invalid. Your dumfounded feeling is understandable given that those tariffs were founded in dumbness. Smart people know that only Congress is empowered with the responsibility to impose taxes and tariffs.

Do not make a similar founded-in-dumbness decision by involving our military in dealing with Iran’s supposed nuclear ambitions.

Regards,

Too bad the POTUS cannot read.

Next step: Will Trump accept the ruling?

I expect he, his bootlicking Treasury Secretary, and fellow Epstein Class member Lutnik will invoke another justification for the tariffs and work that case up to the Supreme Court, first asking it for authority to continue the tariffs while the new case is pending.

I hope the six Justices who, in this case, couldn’t endure the shame of ignoring unambiguous statutory language (although they haven’t seemed troubled by that in the past) don’t let Trump’s criminal administration get away with sabotaging the Constitution (again).

I also hope the six Justices don’t find horse heads in their beds or the equivalent.

A Godfather reference is always a pleasure, as is a Goodfellas line or two.

So many questions - Who were the 3 who dissented? What is the mechanism for reimbursement of tariffs to businesses? Individuals? 27% of our goods were subject to his tariffs. Will they get cheaper now?

Kathryn's avatar

Thomas, Alito and Kavanaugh dissented. Kavanaugh said any refunds could be messy. Like that’s the issue??

Katy Bolger's avatar

I hope they choke on their lunch.

Mary, I applaud your feelings about Trump and Iran. T. wants to make a splash there, to show "who's boss" with his bathtub playtoys--U.S. Navy carriers. Since I had served as an advisor in Iran before the Shah was kicked out, and in our Navy for a career, a friend asked me what I would advise be done. Alas, we have a president who knows everything, and doesn't need advice. But if we had a rational human as president, I would advise starting to work on making Iran our friend again, and weaning them from Hamas, Houthi, Hezbollah and "Death to Israel", and help them get a positive national goal. By the way, that might be a good idea for the U.S., as well.

So now this is going to get very interesting (all the while the world watches too).

As you know, Trump has always crowed that his tariffs were targeted at and paid for by other nations and never by US corporations and later by us. Now, you can almost hear the figurative adding machines clatter as nation after nation quickly documents and prepares their refund invoices.

Will Trump....

A. Refund billions of dollars he illegally kept from exporters via illegal tariffs. Or,

B. Admit finally, that the cost of his illegally tariffs were paid by our private corporations and they, the corporations in turn, passed those costs to us in the form of higher prices. Or,

C. Start a war with Iran.

My money is on C.

So does this mean that prices at the registers will drop? Will new car prices go down? Will Chinese imports come back? Etc…

Katy Bolger's avatar

And do we get paid back for all the things we needed, bought and overpaid for? Where is my refund? Kavanaugh, get cracking with those calculators, you big loser.

Jack McGowan's avatar

Kiss it good bye! Importers may litigate for their payments but consumers are holding the bag.

Barry's avatar

Wait, so Trump, Bessant and Lutnick don't know what they are doing? I am shocked.

It seems the loose ends hint at being gathered. Mr and Mrs J.Q.Public…Thank YOU. It is the America Rally back bone riled , the curs ruffled need to stand their ground. The Supreme Court not just a day late and dollars short but months and billions cost people lives, homes, and the truth is just beginning to be revealed. How many more ‘cases’ stay delayed ..while havoc proceeds or havoc’s proceeds get or got put in deep pockets.

The grift is about up, who slips out in the dark of night first …reads like an Abbott and Costello skit, or The Gingerbread Man’s ‘catch me if you can’.

The list is years of prosecution , the con’s final price tag, and a lesson hopefully worth remembering ..this time.

No sigh of relief yet for me, with sleeves rolled up still searching the rubble to get the redacted exposed .

A lot of work needs done , undo the illegalities and re-establish equality’s progression.

It would be the best present on America’s 250th birthday see the guilty in these cons coup CONVICTED!

I understand this reference and have visuals from films in my head. Wondering if younger people do: "a man pitching a miracle tonic from the back of a wagon" Any hands raised?

Katy Bolger's avatar

I like the image of Elmer Gantry (Burt Lancaster) thrusting his bullshit at unsuspecting Midwesterners. How about the man selling wares and medicine off the back of his wagon at the top of The Wizard of Oz. But my favorite is Andy Griffith in A Face in the Crowd for out and out bamboozlers who rise from nothing to become powerful through lying.

Hurray! Do I see a glint of light at the end of the tunnel?

Katy Bolger's avatar

Where? Show me! I wanna see the light! The SCOTUS is going to f up again and again before this term is over in June. Don't praise them too high or mistake lights, could be just a shiny gum wrapper.

Mary, consider having the illustration in this post made into a poster. It’s great.
