"...a majority of Americans now say ethics and honesty in government have declined under his watch...."

Took them long enough to notice!

Head-spinning news daily!!! Thanks for laying it out clearly and with humor!! It is hard to find any humor in the serious degradation of our country right now!! Thanks for writing, Mary!!!

My Aussie (mostly) named Auggie chewed on my underwear (he preferred the pants to bras). I learned to not leave them on the floor in my closet.

It downright depresses me to the point of forgetfulness to try to deal with it all. Being informed used to be a talent of mine, but now it's like, overkill. There is so much going on at every level of the top tier that all is see is the death and destruction that it has already caused and even I can't keep up with it all. My heart goes out, maybe keeps me going, knowing that there are children out there, taken from Loving Families being either or all mistreated, indoctrinated, abused, used in nefarious ways, and all thinking their parents have just abandoned them at this point. We don't know and have no way of finding out right now. I expect there re many like me. Tired, sleeping too much, afraid to read the latest news.....

I only wish I could sleep! My brain is reviewing the news of the day many hours of the night.

"I was just doing my job, following orders"... Every Nazi collaborator in Germany, 1945 and after

I am in Maine now, and I was genuinely surprised at the gas station yesterday: 4.40 for the cheap stuff, 6.04 for premium. That was slightly higher than deisel. That has to be a record. That's going to hurt here. So much winning...

I paid $4.48 for the cheap stuff in small town southern Wisconsin yesterday— this retiree will be staying home more!

Have a wonderful birthday Marz!!! And thank you as always, Mary!!! This is a time of opportunity for the Dems that is unprecented to my knowledge. And, as Mary has said, a perfect time for the USA to rebuild better than it was before this debacle. Yet the Democratic party has not coalesced and used this opportunity in any productive way that I can see. All they do is criticize Trump ... and we don't need them for that. Schumer and Jefferies are so ineffective as leaders of Senate and Congress ... it's pathetic! Just my opinion.

We had a Golden who would take just one of our guests shoes out to the front yard, dig a hole and bury it. Apparently he resented them taking my total attention off of him. Socks went as well. They were usually retrieved, cleaned by me, and after apologies proffered, warned to keep their bedroom door shut. You have to respect the fact that a non-verbal being had a perfect way of indicating his feelings.

Thanks for laying out the situation so clearly! In reference to T*ump One's family separation policy, I recently read a book that I highly recommend: Detained by D. Esperanza. Esperanza was a 14 y/o Honduran boy who traveled with cousins to the US in 2018 and kept a journal of his experiences (his parents were already here) He sent 6 months in detention, despite the fact that his parents were trying to get him released to their custody. He experienced what you describe--being moved frequently without being told where he was going.

Hegseth’s white Crusader nationalist purges of senior military officers, as Trump’s illegal mega-billion dollar war spins out of control, is the stuff of tin pot dictatorships. The complicity that has consumed the former Republican Party is the stuff of treason.

Again, you have ferreted out from the chaos what’s significant and why - so we are better able to “pay attention”.

And happy birthday Marz!

I am reading a fascinating book called Goliath's Curse: The History and Future of Societal Collapse by Luke Kemp. I'm not sure I agree with everything he says, including some of his premises, but a lot is spot on commentary. A book that generates a lot of underlining. Basically, he posits that "hierarchical" societies are fragile and ultimately collapse, with example through history, from early indigenous American societies (North and South) on through to today. It was published in mid-2025 and clearly written mostly before trump 2.0 showed up.

But in terms of the Schrödinger image, it may not just be the wave function that is about to collapse.
