Good on Canada for sticking to their democratic principles!
China can strangle supply of rare earth elements. Canada has vast reserves, as yet mostly undeveloped, which could be immensely helpful in breaking China's stranglehold. Trump's insistence that we give the US right of first refusal over our resources (19th century colonialism) was one of the breaking points, another was the suggestion that any trade agreements we make would be subject to US approval. The suggestion that we, a bilingual country, would limit the use of French in our cultural industries and on packaging was the hat trick of stupidity. So the 50% tariffs: hurts us because it will shrink demand, hurts the US because some of those products are not easily replaceable and Americans pay the price. Where are the governors? Where are the CEOs? Can nobody restrain this fool?
And Justin Wolfers is very quotable (you have to read his quotes in an Australian accent).
Just wanted to point out to your readers that the Carney government has been diversifying its larger security relationships for the past year, including strategic agreements with and large purchases from Europe, Australia, Japan. Like any chess game, the moves are slow but deliberate.
All for a demented man’s malignantly narcissistic ego. He’ll burn the whole world down if MAGA enablers in Congress, the Supreme Court and media continue to turn a blind eye to this manifestly sick traitor.

Elon Musk’s grandfather was Joshua Haldeman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joshua_N._Haldeman) and he was part of the Technocracy movement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technocracy_movement). Of course, Trump’s foreign policies can be unrelated to this (after all the countries he lust for are neighbors).
