I think we need to work on identification. "Immigrants" want to go TO a place. Most of the people coming into the US are fleeing FROM a place: they are "refugees."

Immigrants choose to go - they pack belongings, have a plan, and know if they changed their minds, they can go back if they want to.

Refugees leave because they're forced to. Whether they're living under brutal regimes that will kill them for no reason, or they're slowly starving to death, their only choice is leave, or die.

I doubt most refugees coming to the US believe the streets are paved with gold.

No one is coming here anymore! Can’t claim them, I might move out of country if the blue wave doesn’t work! 😢

As someone who has been accompanying and advocating for immigrants for a long time, the situation of immigrant children continues to break my heart. It is so typical of this administration to use the kids in order to detain and deport other family members. Kids suffer when they are in detention, when they are in ORR custody, and anywhere when they are separated from their parents. Having a parent deported is a trauma. Being in detention is a trauma. Living in the shadows is traumatic. Many of these kids are US citizens. We should be looking out for their well-being, but we are not. However, our Senator Merkley has introduced the Children's Safe Welcome Act, which tries to put some more guardrails around children who are in DHS custody. It's a small step. https://www.merkley.senate.gov/merkley-kamlager-dove-congress-must-ensure-safety-well-being-of-children-seeking-asylum/

likes no one but white AND loyally adoring. Fauci is white; Comey is white; Smith is white. So are a vast proportion of the people saying" yich" when survey folk call.

So sorry you and your hubby are now sick and miserable! How you can write such incisive prose right now is beyond me. It sizzles with controlled indignation, cries out to be "Shared"!

Thank you, Shanley! Hope you feel better soon. ❤️‍🩹

Thank you, Shanley.

I don't know how you manage to keep writing so well when you are sick.

Hope you and your family will soon be completely recovered.

Sometimes it must seem preferable to succumb to the flu rather than the news. (I haven't had it since the Hong Kong Flu in the sixties, so I'm not speaking from experience. And no, I have NO idea how I've dodged it through two kids and two grandkids.
