I am a Canadian living in Canada. Thank you, Mary, for your warm and sincere condolences regarding the school shooting in British Columbia. You do note that it's a far more common occurence in the USA but still a horribly shocking and fairly rare occurence in Canada. Our Prime Minister Carney was heartfelt in his message about it today. While trump (just can't call him President and can't even capitalize his name) has not shown any grief toward the families, he HAS been looking at Canada from the perspective of wanting half ownership of the new bridge joining Windsor and Detroit or he won't allow it to open, causing big troubles for business & industry on both sides. It's not a warranted demand, but when do his claims ever carry legitimacy?
Thank you Mary, great writing as always. Another day of tragedy, corruption and incompetance. The only names that should be redacted from the Epstein Files are the victims. All other names should be left intact. Let those who associated with him in any way explain for themselves why they chose to do so. No excuses, no redactions, if they have nothing to hide they can prove it. The rest need to be held accountable, every last one of them, no matter who they are. It is definately time for the 25th Amendment to be implemented.
When the mob boss gang runs ‘the town’ ..this is what you get. There’s been enough movies , history books, and documentaries to prove this truth and yet ‘that’s who they voted for’, didn’t see it coming, charismatic cons work , and there’s no lack of advantage being taken as fast as possible when the looting is prime. Not many knew the history of their dealings ,an occasional rape accusation, a shot puppy, vetting for the posture it presented who’d really think the liars would lie some more? …but , pretty well known is you either go along , disappear, and some play the short ‘long game’ getting positions and rich. Alternately you’re in the hassled seats the bosses pushing buttons and ‘things’ are made difficult. They had four years to reconstruct what didn’t work and even then kept a lot of ‘the show performing .
The messes get cleaned up and boat rocking isn’t the acceptable style or recommended , just nose to the grind.
It was almost a nice break. Too much background noise kept the pressure real though.
The firmness of entrenchment got here in a hurry, tactics and the loyal plugged in quick with their agenda, lighting little fires ,kept the focus distracted , as the wool is pulled elsewhere. Delaying , denying, time of the essence ..allowed..and the plot thickened …as intended.
The wake up is inconvenient to the emboldened, and getting away with it still has risks..how many will it take not accepting the BS before …it’s too late…costs the Good and Pretti’s the title ..”it was just the beginning stages” in autocracy’s saga.
There’s a lot of people to ask because they’ve been there, they are there, and if we don’t stop it now …we’ll BE THERE.

The White House revoked CNN's Jim Acosta’s press pass after a contentious press conference — a federal judge ordered it restored on First Amendment grounds but he's no longer with CNN. The massage? Just Don't.
Trump repeatedly pushes to “open up” libel laws so he could sue critical media --another way to chill political reporting.
Trump regularly threatens broadcasters’ licenses and pressures companies and athletes over political speech. And he largely gets away with it.
I could go on...
Germany’s handling of extremist parties can be debated but claiming free-speech absolutism abroad while punishing disfavored speech at home is just more hypocrisy.

While grift, corruption and incompetence are certainly real in this administration and its adjuncts, I vote for the third category.
Project 2025 is one indicator. It’s a deeply researched strategic plan to accomplish the end of the rule of law and democratic governance in favor of a small elite that rules without accountability.
As we’ve already seen, every loophole and weakness in laws and legal precedents is being exploited to accomplish the end goal, often vitiating the clear intent of the laws and precedents. Up is down.
When subverting the rule of law with gamesmanship isn’t enough, they just do what they want, attack all critics, and even justify killing or disappearing them.
Thiel, Musk and others in the tech bro elite are even more ruthless in their disdain for democracy and law. As Mary and other serious journalists are reporting, they are creating a mass surveillance state bolstered by government lies and disinformation.
Bondi’s attack-dog persona today embodies the many ways the DOJ, rest of the Trump cabal and Epstein Class, including many tech bros, are tearing apart our nation. Truth, law, justice, decency, the role of Congress…mean nothing to her or them.
Martin Luther King once said love without power is sentimental, and power without love is cruel. For MLK, the fight for human rights and justice is an act of love that seeks power to effect a more humane, just world. We know where Trump, Bondi and their allies stand in this equation.
