Mike Johnson declared 'holiday time' for Congress and they all went home. What a missed opportunity for Democrats!! Taking this from Adam Kinzinger's video ... Democrats could have, instead, stayed at work with constituents in mind and put out really strong messaging. Your point, Mary, is well put ... Democrats need to think about NEW ways rather than reinstating OLD ways. Time is getting short.
Yes, please repost the new Bill of Rights framework you suggest...I think you make an excellent argument for how we move from protest to a "new Reconstruction."
Your argument echoes a somewhat academic but rigorous framework for how to move forward. And also would like a peek at the bill of rights you proposed.
I'd like Mary to repost: "That framework is in the archives, and if it would help move this discussion forward, I’m happy to repost it simply as a conversation starter."
Yes, the New Bill Of Rights and I would add eliminating anything remaining in the constitution, laws and structure of the federal government that reeks of the stench of slavery. The first thing to go: the Electoral College.
Yes. Finally a solution that seems to provide a path forward instead of running out of fingers to plug the failing dike. Please re-post your framework for a new Bill of Rights along with your suggestion as to who will lead this effort - a brave group of new framers. Brava Mary!
A nice beginning. Am especially pleased to see the rights of privacy, workers and voters addressed. I think many of the ills existing in our present situation could have been eliminated if our Constitution and Bill of Rights had been interpreted by our courts to further its stated purposes: to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness rather than the mumbo jumbo bs offered by "originalism."
Yes, please repost your ideas for a "remodeled" Bill of Rights; but I am skeptical that it is the very first order of business. The first thing IMO would follow the Ukrainian model: Gather in whatever location(s) serves as our Maidan, and not leave until Trump and the entire regime resigns. Our "ask" needs to be immediate resignations of Trump, his VP, all cabinet heads, white House advisors, Mike Johnson, Thune, and the six radical corrupt supreme court justices who have perverted the Constitution and destroyed our democracy. There can be no meaningful reform until they are all drummed out of public life. Then we can start to rebuild while simultaneously attempting to hold the principal law breakers accountable.
Yes, please repost your outline--that would be great. [ETA: Found it in various comments, thank you.] However, I think we're all too scared to seriously fight for a new Bill of Rights--because what hubris, right? This is where Dems fail--we're all too damned polite. Ugh.
Brilliant suggestion! Defeating the Administrations horrific destruction and ignorance of the Constitution is the beginning, not the ending. The Trumpian chaos has revealed the damage that can be accomplished to destroy the rule of law. A new Bill of Rights using the cracks revealed by this administration that would guarantee the healing of those vulnerabilities is desperately needed. Things have changed in the 250 years since the Constitution was written. Let's address that to insure that we maintain the integrity of the values on which. our nation was founded.

Nuremburg-style trials for the perpetrators and enablers would be a really good start.

Carpe diem, sieze the day, go for it, the entire world will thank you.
Hear, hear to a new Bill of Rights - or at least, to amending our current one. Please post your draft!
