Coos County Sheriff's Office isn't accredited with either the NW Accreditation Alliance or Calea. They should be at least NWAA accredited. In the minimum, someone could do a FOIA request for their policy on following state/federal laws, then use his statements to revoke his certification from DPSST. I believe state law requires Sheriffs to be certified w/in 6 months of being sworn in.
Such low standards when it comes to women really pisses me off. I worked for the judiciary, in various states, for 35 years. It’s so distressing that there is no change, and in fact, we are now going backwards regarding women’s rights.
Holding local elected officials accountable takes focus and engagement. Few want the bother, and those who do often have narrow agendas. Your willingness to track how this sheriff has performed, report what the facts show, and press for answers and actions that line up with the promises is beyond commendable - it’s a model of citizenship we all need to embrace.
In my home town of San Francisco, it’s an exhausting undertaking. Whether the city is in a boom or a bust cycle, the role of big money in politics is constant. There are about 535,000 registered voters in SF, yet spending on local ballot propositions financially backed by crypto and other billionaires is exceeding $13 million. Among other measures, they support making it harder for residents to gather signatures for propositions they don’t sponsor.
It seems we outside the inner circle are in a gilded age that especially favors billionaires (for context, if every second were a dollar, it would take about 11.7 days to reach one million and 31.7 years to reach a billion).
One has to buy as much Justice as they can afford in America. Years ago six black men were accused of rape that they were later exonerated of completely. Donald Trump took six full page ads saying to hang them anyway. And yet, he has been convicted of rape and became president. And I think police should be more public servants than soldiers boots on the ground. Recently near Orlando a woman had a mental episode middle aged woman in her own yard yelling with a knife in her hand the three police told her to drop the knife and when she didn't they shot her to death
