Max @UNFTR has been my new fav financial podcaster for a bit now, glad to see your shout out to him. he's brilliant, and always super on point. that piece this am was epic. and super salient. our system is wrecked, and only gotten WORSE over the last few decades. happy to see the pig, larry summers, go up in flames around epstein, he has been at the center of neoliberal democrats and the major economic catastrophes for a few decades now. oligarchy hates us, the people, and summers is a posterboi for that pack of swines.

thank you Mary!

So powerful. I love the way you pull together the strands--collapsing capitalism, health care and the climate crisis. May we continue to stand together and try and build something better from the smoldering remains.

As always you provide a clear eyed assessment of the chaos that is engulfing every aspect of life in the US. Thank you!

There's so much atrociousness going on Mary didn't have space to comment on the $500K politicians thought they should receive if their phone records were examined for potential illegalities. Even SNL is scratching their head trying to focus.

Every single problem can be traced back to GREED. Thank you for bringing all this together.

Meanwhile we all run around like squirrels gathering and hoarding nuts, which have imaginary value, storing them vaults controlled by hedge funds, worrying about how much they will be worth tomorrow tomorrow, hoping the career politicians of both parties who kowtow to every whim of a handful of hedge fund billionaires with their secret Cayman Islands carry trade, will save us. Does that sound about right?

Well, the only positive I found out this post is that "Ukrainian officials, after conferring with European allies, told Washington to shove it." I hope that the Epstein files are totally released, with no restrictions. LOL.

Instant hiking of prices. For decades, overseas countries have debated getting rid of the ‘penny’, but have not because the rounding up to 5 pence or 5 pesos etc will give you instant inflation. So we are stuck with 1 cent coins in the EU etc. We call the small coins shrapnel but no way are they taking them away. Tossing a penny is a world wide habit and the US is about to abolish it for their chancers. 4 cents of millions of transactions is inflation on a plate.

There is not an item on the menu that the trump administration is dishing out that is worthy, but in order to bring a voice of reason and determination back to our country, we must fight the good fight until we win and "they" are gone one way or another. We have an over abundance of human turkey's running around in every one of our states, some blatantly transparent and some still cloaked and bending to the will of the biggest turkey of them all. Thanks, Mary, for always giving us the big picture in several paragraphs of easy reading. You are our Thanksgiving gift!

So the planet's on fire, the economy is sinking, healthcare is going to hell in a handcart, and America is now a B country in an A country world. SNAFU.

My favorite line of the week came from Bill Cassidy, who has turned out to be just what you'd expect of a Louisiana senator: "The power of the purse!" Yeh, bub. As if.

p.s. So oil rigs are less unsightly than windmills and don't spoil the view--?

But windmills don’t pollute the sea, making it impossible for fish let alone mankind to live in. While Miami is losing its breakwater coral reefs to high water temperatures in the last few decades, reefs which have harboured aquatic life for thousands of years are dying for good, you want to pollute more sea. Windmills at least produce electricity for the US not for some overseas car. Trust me, the US will not see any of the profits Trump imagines he can make. It is just who will give him the biggest handout.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. Trump’s main beef about power windmills is how unsightly they are, while he ignores the problems with oil rigs, from pollution to fostering the use of fossil fuels and so on.

I should have followed the comment with "/s" - my mistake...

Your insights into the economic and environmental house of cards Trump and his billionaire pals here and abroad have constructed should be top news everywhere, since nothing living on this planet will escape the fallout of their rapacious greed for unchecked wealth and power.

No small cadre of humans should ever have the power to destroy that these modern villains have. That we ordinary folks have enabled them and their predecessors in history is a fatal flaw in human design.

"At the same time, the White House press corps is being told that they should accept Trump calling female reporters “PIGGY” as part of the “access and transparency” package"

The press corps needs to get their act together and FIGHT BACK, maybe something like this:

As much as I wish the press would grow a spine, I wish I had not clicked that link. The misogyny needs to be confronted but not by a litany of fat shaming tropes. Rather than answer garbage with more garbage, we can respond with class and intelligence. How about "Why do you think it's ok to attack a woman like that?"

Your columns are a bloody roller coaster. One day, we get a glimpse of hope, the next, sheer terror and smoke pouring out of the engine as the ride grinds to a halt with us at the top, breathing black ash and swinging by one wingnut and threadless screw. I repeat: This is madness and it must be stopped. I just keep thinking how will they think about us in the future? Will they see our helplessness as laziness? Will they see our sporadic protests as weak tea? Further, how does a country come back from this? At what point is there no return? The longer he goes, the more damage, the more damage, the longer the recovery. One bright thought: When he goes, the rest follow. Not the big mouths like Bannon, but the loyalists like Bessent in D.C.. Oligarchs just refocus their money. Tech bros scrape Trump off the gold bars and repurpose.

We have hated MTG for a long time, yet she never felt the need for security until the iDJT turned against her. Stochastic Terrorism. Again. Now we have had to increase security for these brave Dems who reminded soldiers of their duty to We the People 🙁 So proud of our CO Rep. Crow and the others!
