As a more recent subscriber, I have become hooked on your newsletters. Your succinct but comprehensive analysis of the daily occurrences of bad governance and non-governance is both educational and terribly sobering; yet, at the same time, they're such a pleasure to read. I do wonder when you sleep!
Mary doesn't sleep. she writes. And in addition to the adjectives you used, Mary is funny as hell. Sometimes I need to stop and just savor a phrase or sentence.
I add deviant behavior sexually has been around forever and will remain. The rich tend (it seems to me ) to lavish on blowout performances , over-the-top clothing, and press coverage because we like the performances or entertainment , be it a spy thriller based on a true story, fictional twilight-zone episodes, sex sells and soap opera mentalities came soon after TV was invented.
Breaking the law is not what ya know as much as who ya know and plea bargains please the hunt for a bigger bargain.
Yestercentury we struggled for much the same but a lot more people got rich , when the looking the other way was convenient is when a country sinks into same traps, proven- multiple times, and driven by the richest.
There’s endless distractions…principle take at least second or third when there’s money to be made and laws bend for bargains.
I am still stuck back where you informed us that trump's name was going to go up on the Kennedy centre, this is the end for me, Kennedy was beloved pretty well throughout the world, no possible connection between him and the cheese in a cheap suit. to me this is a shocking move, please forgive no caps, it just doesn't work on my keyboard
Today is the legally mandated deadline for the release of the Epstein files, and in a move so subtle it practically came with jazz hands, Speaker Mike Johnson responded by sending the entire House of Representatives home.
In 1996, Australia, a gun-loving country suffered a shooting massacre with 35 killed and 23 wounded. John Howard, the newly minted prime minister did not just offer the requisite thoughts and prayers but put into motion strict gun laws that have been in place for thirty years. I had a student from Australia ten years ago. I also taught a class called Guns in America. When a family suicide/murder happened in Australia, the kid was blown away. He couldn't believe a mass shooting had happened in Australia. We in America love our mass shootings. We have normalized them in such a way that only the most horrific or important mass shootings even make the national news. Where local communities are still devastated by gun violence, our country really has just enfolded guns and gun violence as business as usual. And that fn stupid SCOTUS redefining the second amendment to mean individual gun owners instead of what it says: a well regulated militia. I try to breathe and stay sane but I am so tired of guns in this country and the harm they do. Deep dives into gun history and gun laws and gun ownership made me realize something which I believe in my heart to be true: people say they own guns for safety but I believe that many people keep guns not to harm others but as a sure way out if they decide they want to go.
Could be a covid outbreak from all those unvaccinated individuals celebrating together in their home states. D.C. will be shut down and sealed off to "protect the innocents"! Government shutdown plan devised by trump and carried out by Johnson. (This is merely my humble attempt at dark humor, but I must admit, anything is possible.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned we Need to Get Rid of all the guns! It’s driving me crazy Mary.. I want a house to house search, I’m soo sick of them being Married to the NRA! Screw our 2and amendment! Our Kids are dying all over!😩💀
Firearm-related injuries have been the leading cause of death for this age (1-19 years old) group since 2020, surpassing motor vehicle crashes.
I swear to God if we had a female president and more women in the cabinet and running agencies and in Congress, we wouldn't get fooled by the NRA talking points. I used to teach a class called Guns in America. I asked the kids to write out the first amendment and it was a struggle or impossible for most/all of them. But when I ask them to complete this phrase, all could do it: Guns don't kill people...
It is appalling and affirming re: Judge Dugan. Clearly what she did was moral, and reflected the obscenity56 characterizing an overzealous immigration sweep. However, I must stand firm in my belief in juries. The prosecution made successfully a case persuading their verdict. And, appeal is clearly her right.
What is appalling is the continual assault on our Constitution and norms. Renaming the Kennedy Center is beyond the pale of respectability. The continual “thoughts and prayers” versus substance is unacceptable
Keep the faith, Mary, we are all on board with you. Happy Holidays.
I do not know details of the Epstein Files but my guess is that they will never be seen unredacted in their entirety. The whole tragedy of this sexual trafficking ring is huge and involves so many extremely powerful men that we will never know details and the children and young women are unlikely to see justice done. I wish I was wrong. The miasma of the massive cover up reeks to high heaven.
Such a cast of devious, unqualified people leading or misleading our country. As they rush to the doors, grateful that they will not have to take votes on anything that will provide sunlight to their nefarious governing procedures or lack of them, we the people should vow to vote to rid the lot of them from any further government, both local and federal, position.
Thank you, Mary! And enjoy your holiday celebrations!

Rather a nut-shell synopsis and point on .

When will this be over?
When a better or bigger story comes along.

I'm kinda stuck on Mary's first sentence:
Today is the legally mandated deadline for the release of the Epstein files, and in a move so subtle it practically came with jazz hands, Speaker Mike Johnson responded by sending the entire House of Representatives home.
Jazz hands!!

I can’t help wondering what pretext will be used to keep Congress at home after New Year.

I cut and paste this:
Firearm-related injuries have been the leading cause of death for this age (1-19 years old) group since 2020, surpassing motor vehicle crashes.
I swear to God if we had a female president and more women in the cabinet and running agencies and in Congress, we wouldn't get fooled by the NRA talking points. That's generational propaganda.
I hope the knee is better and that Marz is only interested in cuddles right now.
A huge thank you for all you do to help keep us sane! 💕

That 2 of 3 wives weren't born in US and spoke with accents from their country of birth deserves a cartoon, at least. Too bad I can't draw.
Such a cast of devious, unqualified people leading or misleading our country. Mary, I don't know how you stay on top of it, but you definitely are my go-to for your posts. I love your wit, your knowledge and your analyses.
