I love this story. I come from Manitoba where beavers are at work here and there and it is so good to read that what they do is valuable to the environment. Thanks for writing.
This story follows very closely with a wetland restoration that was going on where I use to work. I live in NW Oregon USA. There was a decision made to restore a fairly large wetland. They brought in a bunch of equipment to slow the flow of water through the area. The crew had to constantly change the layout plan because the Beavers showed up and started building mud dams faster than the crews could work. The result turned out great. They even saw a river Otter on a trail cam with in a year of completion.
Some times it is best to let nature do the work and just assist where needed.
Thank you for a wonderful story!!!! Nature has so much to teach us...about so many critical things that support/enhance/regenerate life. If only our egos, excessive profits, and pompous sense of exceptualism didn't drown out the lessons nature hands us to help save ourselves.
It's stories like these that remind me that WE are the parasites on the planet. A planet that if left alone, would blossom with an abundance of life. We CAN change but the road is not well paved.
Jeez, you're a good writer!
Lovely.🫶
How very often hope arrives with whiskers and fur! Thank you, Shanley—another stunning reminder of the gifts of earth and life.

Left me with a warm feeling and a continued appreciation for great writers. Thank you.
This is a lovely story. I grew up just a few miles from where those critters are beavering away and know the area well.
