I'm not a geopolitical scholar, but I do know a simple-mind when I see one. I'm going to imagine somewhere in that head Trump has a marble rolling around thinking something like this: A) Taiwan manufactures many/most of our advanced semiconductors and China wants Taiwan. B) Appalachia voter overwhelmingly for Trump,and Appalachia has lots of underemployed coal miners. Big idea: give China Taiwan, move advanced semiconductor manufacturing to Appalachia, where for sure those workers can be trained to make them (when they're not assembling iPhones), = Trump is a big winner.
