As allies doubt our commitments, weapons stockpiles run thin, oligarchs toast “press freedom,” and Trump melts down over a ballroom bunker, America’s credibility crisis goes global.
Depressing, but true: America's support is no longer guaranteed, in any context, really, but especially as regards NATO. It's got to be a frightening question to ask aloud, as Tusk did, but it's actually just rhetorical, because the answer is clear, and obvious: Donald Trump, and thus America as a defensive military (or even diplomatic partner) is not good their word, let along written agreements. Trump seems to draw strength from the chaos. This might work in RE development, and obviously worked in political campaigning (somehow), but when it comes to the boring business of running a nation, maybe reliable and predictable is good?
What better time to start poking at the edges? Putin is a lot of things but stupid isn’t one of them. Trmp couldn’t have made it easier for Putin….burn through critical weapons’ stockpiles, distract the entire American military establishment with a war of choice and then miss the tiger in the room stealthily pawing at the perimeter.
I think everyone knows the answer... we would not come to the defense of our NATO allies. really difficult for anyone to say that out loud, and i am glad that at least some people with spine are hinting at it. the country that loves to boast that we won WWI and WWII is now AWOL from defending our allies overseas. given that trmp lobbied for Oban, loves Putin, has a picture of Putin in the Whitehouse, would not send US troops into a conflict with Russia. that is what this country has come to.... we are making the select few richer by the day, ceding more and more power to a shadow government made up of trmps family members, corporate pals, and foreign entities. the republicans sit in the House and Senate and appear to be just fine with trmp and his family making billions off the taxpayers, alienating minorities, the poor, Catholics, pretty much anyone who is not white and preferably male. if there were such a thing as a National IQ, we would appear pretty stupid for (a) continuing to support this very dangerous person, (b) supporting actions that are not in anyone's but a few ultra wealthy best interests, and (c) not learning from history and not learning from a nice blueprint presented by Ukraine on how to defeat low cost drones. instead, we spend millions of dollars to shoot down a $20,000 drone. a drone that Iran or anyone else can make by the thousands per year and we are using missiles that take close to a year to make. only an idiot cannot figure out how that plays out. but we are making defense contractors quite happy and quite rich.... each launch and they hear the cash register while the rest of us hear gas prices and food prices increase. bulldoze the ballroom, bulldoze the arch...
So the parts of the story conveniently blacked out or perhaps intentionally scrubbed was the hypnotists brainwashing Krasnov.
Everything is going “just fine”, (as planned ), some of it already noted in Project 2025 and the rest falling into place like the bombs, the rude & crude, arsenals depleted , yada , yada. The dementia part is clever, maybe real, couldn’t have happened if seemingly better timed.
