You are absolutely right, Mary. All the reputable newspapers I read in the UK seemed to decide en masse at the beginning of the Iran war that it was time for the editorial kid gloves to come off and for Trump to be denounced as the demented Emperor who has no clothes... I think they had hesitated before because they were afraid of being sued. He is a universal hate figure over here and there is much oppostition to the state visit by the king and queen to the US at the end of the month. The only popular move our mistake-prone prime minister has made lately is to resist the UK being involved as a combatant in the war.

My coffee IS strong and so is my resistance to all this evil sickness. Thank you Mary, and please take care of yourself!!

Thank you for somehow managing to share what is going on in the US now with some sarcastic humour. I love it! As a Canadian, I watch from afar praying that there is some sanity in congress there who can stop this before it spreads any further. For the life of me, I do not understand how this madness continues and how he has so many uninformed supporters. It is good to know that other world leaders are finally starting to see what we have been observing for months. They all need to stop groveling at his feet and treat him like the evil, dangerous man that he is.

My Dear Mr. President:

From your role as a developer of high-rises, you certainly must grasp the problem occurring when a malfunctioning elevator doesn’t make it all the way to the top of the building.

Not unrelated: You recently posted on Truth Social: “As everyone knows, I am an extraordinarily brilliant person.”

A majority of your fellow citizens – myself included – beg to disagree. Given the volatile off-again, on-again situation in Iran, the destabilization of our relationships with NATO allies and trading partners, and the related devastation facing the US economy on the home front, it is increasingly evident that you are experiencing cognitively the malady that may have concerned you during your days as a developer.

Time to step down and possibly get help.

Regards,

Mary, you are performing a very important service at a critical time. But it's SO toxic and so continuous. Do take a break even more often than may feel needed bc it's not healthy to spend too much time and thought on only this crisis. It's not a weakness to be poisoned by poison ... it's a predictable result. We all must stay in fighting shape by living in a healthy fashion. The animals show us how to do it, don't they? On Sunday night 60 Minutes Anderson Cooper did an interview with Rachel Goldberg-Pollen who became a media speaker when her son was abducted by the invasion at the music festival in Israel on 'Oct 7th'. He was loaded into a pickup truck with his arm blown off and the raw bone sticking out of his forearm ... then a clip showed the tunnel the prisoners were held in. Rachel is amazing. I'm going to listen to her and her husband on Anderson Cooper's podcast called 'All There Is' which he started bc he found grieving his Mom's death very difficult. The episode he did with Ken Burns was excellent. Pretty sure the Pollens' will be heart-wrenching but at this point in life I'm experiencing grief frequently and it's good (for me) to have healthy input about processing grief. She also just released her second book (thus the interview on Sunday) and it's already a best seller. I don't feel ready for the book yet. It's important to stay with the geo-political news at this time, and the environmental and AI updates too ... and to express our views and votes and disgust loudly and often in whatever ways we can. But for me, individual stories take the effects off the world stage of megalomaniacs, narcissists, warmongers, racists etc (the people causing and delivering the daily horrors at whom I am so angry) and bring it down to the individual level ... people & families ... who are my peers in this and with whom I have such empathy and sympathy. So it's a different vibe/resonance in me toward the same events. AND it's important to walk our dogs, be outside with trees and sunshine, laugh with old and young friends, family & neighbours, be awed by beauty and art and nature, and feel gratitude for our blessings. I so love the paragraph about Marz that you always close with. Thank you every single day for the news, your take on it, your humour, and for sharing Marz and Shanley.

Thanks for your well written summary of events.

As a popular writer can you somehow write something to get King Charles NOT to visit the USA on 4/27?? The UK has GOT to be smarter than to send him into that snake pit!!!!

"Trump’s strategy has become almost pointless because “trying to deconstruct his mind is completely futile,” and because he now seems to “make a statement and then 10 seconds later… assert the opposite.”

I have a theory about Trump's constantly changing positions...and it's based in science.

Aside from the obvious bad news you relayed in this essay - now a given when discussing 47 and his overachieving kakistocracy - I took particular enjoyment in this essay.

Brimming with wit and biting sarcasm - ‘presidential mood ring’ and ‘cognitive fog machine’ stand out - I found that my already strong coffee tasted a bit stronger and a bit bolder, fuel-injecting me just that little bit better for the coming slings and arrows of the day ahead.

Thank you Mary!

I think the demonic Hegseth is taking advantage of Trump’s evil mind and controlling his actions.

I don’t blame the Allies wanting nothing to do with Trump’s war of choice. Why would they? Things need to change with America’s political system. I would like to see the electoral college eliminated. Trump’s remark regarding Virginia’s vote to redistrict, being another fake result makes me sick.

The only thing that gives me some hope is that other countries are fully aware this is Trump’s ballgame and will be easier on our next president who hopefully is not a republican.

I don’t think your reporting is too long! There’s a hell of a lot happening every day!

How many years ago was it a bunch of head honchos were snickering, casting raised eyebrows and whispering at him? 10+? This is round 2.

You knew.

I don't see cognitive deterioration in the orange menace at all. He's ALWAYS been cognitively impaired. He's no more looney now than he was during his "birther" phase. It's his supporters who I've seen decline cognitively.

really wish you could put sources in these essays - James O'Brien is constantly cited yet who is he, where is his writing?

O’Brien is a British broadcaster on London’s LBC radio.

thanks! just looked it up, that seems a great resource.

Still wish they could cite their sources...

Your articles are becoming too long and too wordy. You present good information but your presentation loses its impact due to much data crammed into multi-page memos.
