Trump's reflecting pool fiasco is the perfect metaphor for the Washington swamp: a no-bid contract, handed to a Mar-a-Lago insider, followed by a predictable algae bloom that anyone who passed elementary school science could have seen coming. Darker surface = warmer water =green slime.

And, honestly, what did they expect from a company called 'Green Water Services"?

Now we have reports of dead birds in the pool. How long before we see conspiracies that the Radical Democrats planted them just to "make the president look bad"?

Too late for that

Mary- this is one of your essays where I felt the words flowing like clear water... perfectly smooth.

Re Medicaid fraud.....my mother years ago got a call from Medicare asking her if she had had a brain scan on a certain date. She had not. It appears that someone in the systems that were attached to her medical group was filing false reports. So this has been a problem for a very long time.

I liked your observations on the Democrats. I left the party after 40 years because of their treatment of Bernie Sanders (and the multiple objections I had to Hillary Clinton). I had hoped that the party would shape up and pull themselves out of the mire they have been for a long time, but it won't happen until the current top leadership goes away. And I include Barack Obama in that category. Everyone over as MSNOW were swooning over the smooth talk he gave at the opening to his new Center, while I sat there knowing that he had destroyed a major bird migratory sanctuary, cut down hundreds of old growth trees and paid the city of Chicago only $10 for Jackson Park... a property belonging to all the people of Chicago. Now there is concern that his foundation has put only $1 million in a fund to pay for the infrastructure costs that was promised to have hundred of millions in it so the taxpayers wouldn't have to foot those bills. He is just as elitist as the right wing class and certainly a hypocrite when it comes to the environment. A very good read on what happened to the Democratic Party is Listen Liberal by Thomas Frank.

There are some new Dems running for office in KY who have a lot of promise and I hope the party doesn't ruin them.
