“Geopolitical 52 card pickup”

That’s a great visual for the latest mess created by rump.

"A belief that ... geopolitical 52-card pickup might somehow arrange itself into a winning hand" is about as good a description of Trump's foreign policy and his decision to start a war with Iran (prompted by Israel and Saudi Arabia) as there is.

We are living inside a nightmare. Which, I suppose, is better than those children in Minab who are not living at all. Or their parents, their grieving angry defeated parents whose children were so excited to go to school today. My heart is broken for them.

Thank you again for the insights. I just couldn't wrap my head around it initially, but this put it into a synopsis of the issues along with details to support it. I really needed it because the first impulse is, "is it time to reconsider the hidden underground shelter". While none of us that I know of approved of Irans "Holy Leader" and may have wished him gone, this method makes us the (possible) murderers of our own civilization. That we've moved down another notch in World markets and esteem is a given. To have started it is an invitation to consider our own extinction due to multiple factors. We need desperate action that needs everyone's support. Independents, Dems and Repubs included. It's time all of our Representatives in Government to make the call.

I was born during a war, just before D-day. If this goes on like Iraq and Afghanistan, I am likely to end during one. In between there has been one "police action" (Korea) and three major wars based on lies and one that I'm not sure of the reason for (the Gulf war though I suspect the reason was spelled O.I.L )

WWII was the last time Congress actually declared war. The others were "approved" by Congress under Authorizations for Use of Military Force (AUMFs) or other resolutions. Neither applies here, needless to say.

Thank you for another excellent post.

Since Trump's been out of sight for a few days, I'm beginning to wonder if the whole military operation is a distraction from some medical procedure he might be undergoing. Thoughts? other theories?

Trump seems to love triggering chaos and violence as long as he’s shielded from risk. Note how he relishes describing gruesome attacks on innocent victims in macabre detail. By all accounts, he conspicuously enjoyed TV coverage of his followers attacking the Capitol and its defenders on January 6, 2021. Special forces kidnapping the leader of Venezuela was another high for him.

He’s not just into war and chaos, though. After announcing the war in a makeshift “situation room” at Mar-A-Lago, he partied at a $1M per ticket fundraiser on the other side of the curtain. And in today’s public appearance, as civilian and U.S. military deaths mount because, hey, that’s war says Trump, he took time to wax rhapsodic about his new ballroom. Priorities!
