It’s worth pausing here to acknowledge that Dr. James J. Jones is, in fact, a real clinician with a distinguished career in the White House Medical Unit and a documented history of surviving a venomous snakebite during overseas duty. His own account of the incident describes a serious but treatable medical emergency that occurred under controlled evacuation and hospital care, not the apocalyptic, three-times-last-rites ordeal Trump outlined. Jones has also written a memoir about his service and recovery, but there is no evidence it “sold two copies” until a Truth Social post or suddenly rocketed to 100,000 sales in a single day. What Trump offered was not Jones’s story so much as a heavily embellished reinterpretation of it, a version inflated beyond recognition, rearranged for dramatic effect, and fused with unrelated elements such as the Obama daughters, impossible fatality statistics, and mythic survival arcs. The existence of Dr. Jones only underscores how far Trump’s retelling drifted from the real events he was ostensibly describing.

Probably he didn't mention that the viper in the story is the second cousin once removed from the worm in RFK Jr's brain...

Just wow! Well-told, Mary Geddry. And just beyond alarming in terms of cognitive decay. I don’t think cabinet members have the nerve or spine to present 25th Amendment to him. But something MUST be done. It’s far too obvious now. Phew. Thank you for your reporting. Alarmed in Denver

Too obvious and too dangerous.

The frontotemporal dementia is a certainty, the symptoms are clear and unquestionable. Where Trump makes outrageous claims about Biden and the autopen, it is clear that Trump relies on the autobrains of Miller, Vought and other White House puppet masters to prop him up and provide ventriloquist-like management of his presentations.

It takes a village to choreograph this president. The mental deterioration will only get worse. Trump's unseriousness is now compounded by delusional rants. Our ship of state is rudderless. We will most likely have JD Vance stepping up to relieve Trump before his term is completed. The GOP in Congress will now need to break their legislative fast and actually try to govern.

A Rubicon has been crossed, Trump's house of cards is collapsing. The fasten your seat belts sign is flashing. The ride will get bumpy but we will prevail and take our country back.

WOW!!!!! Yikes...I am speechless. Does anyone know where I can actually listen to this hallucinatory speech? I need to hear it for myself.

thanks for that link. I will go there to see for myself.

It's brutal to listen to Trump. But, I would encourage EVERYONE to listen. He's sick. Deranged. You can't get the true degree without experiencing it for yourself.

I can’t listen to that; thank you for doing it. How much longer?

Just a couple of things. The doctor is James Jones. He was in the detail of security and medical personnel that accompanied Malia Obama to Peru. He was bitten by a snake and did write a book about it .

Snakes kill about 10 people a year in Peru, not 28,000. The vast majority survive. Dr. Jones book did not sell a million copies. Not in one day, not ever, because he's not J.K. Rowling.

Trump is probably losing his mind.

Is there a Pulitzer Prize yet for "Substacking"?

If not I will nominate this post for the 1st award.

There is an article from April 10, 2017 listed on U.S. Department of War site, "White House Army Officer Lauded for Saving Lives Days Before His Own Brush With Death" which mentions a Lt. Colonel James Jones, a physician assistant to the president's physician, who was presented a lifesaving award from the Secret Service. It was for services he rendered while on a presidential detail with the secret service in the Peruvian Andes in September of 2016. Jones rendered aid to a Secret Service agent and later two U.S. students in October of 2015. Thereafter, Jones was bitten by a pit viper and fell ill. Secret Service agents facilitated his extraction to a local hospital.

There is no specific mention of the students' names.

It would seem the parable of the snake and the woman, is in fact, Trump. His “snake” of willful deceit throughout his life, has now bitten him. His delusions now the core of his reality—fabulation. For most, I would feel some sympathy. For Trump, well deserved irony. His deceitful life has been paid for by the pain he caused others. Karma.

Malia Obama did travel to Peru in 2016 on a supervised educational trek. Dr. James Jones was bitten by a venomous snake in Peru on a completely separate White House medical mission. Those two events had nothing to do with each other. No shared timeline. No shared location. No shared circumstances. But in Trump’s retelling, they collapse into a single cinematic jungle drama, Malia wandering through the rainforest, a White House doctor collapsing from a viper bite, Secret Service scrambling, anti-venom flying in, last rites whispered over a dying man. What were once two ordinary, unrelated episodes became one mythic adventure because Trump no longer appears able, or willing, to maintain the boundary between memory and narrative.

I stand corrected. 🙂

Note: The second date was October of 2016 not 2015.

My mother-in-law, diagnosed with Alzheimer's, had her lucid moments, but as time went on she rambled and embellished as Trump is now doing. In a year or so, he will indeed be ready for memory care and incontinent, incapable of handling "daily activities of living" on his own. He won't make it for a third term.

We had tried to stop my MIL from driving and move into assisted living, but she was adamant, hanging on to her independence even when many symptoms were evident. Only when she finally got stuck on a Fort Lauderdale drawbridge with the bridge in the up position -luckily, her car somehow had turned itself or she shut it off and she could not restart it because she forgot about the Red Start button--did she finally realize she should no longer drive.

Not sure what the equivalent would be for a president to finally step down, as he has too many people enabling his whims for their benefit.
