The alarming, brazenly unconstitutional ideology behind “National Security Presidential Memorandum 7”, now being translated into an integrated federal government system for identifying and crushing dissenters, should be headline news across all media.
No question millions of us fall within the Memorandum’s sweeping definition of “domestic terrorist”. Am I “anti-Christianity” if not a believer? Am I “anti-Capitalism” if I believe in regulating corporations, banks, monopolies and private equity as well as stronger social safety nets?
In a constitutional Republic, this Memorandum would be legally void for vagueness. In a criminal regime, it’s a license to pick and choose who’s punished.
“It can’t happen here” is the thinking of dreamers. It is happening here: a traitorous coup in process, with billionaire backing, to overthrow the Constitution in favor of a dictatorship where multiculturalism, free speech and the rule of law have no place so a lawless regime and its enablers can loot and plunder with impunity.
Mary’s call to action is prescient and urgent. Our politicians need to be hammered with voices opposing the Putinization of America with unconstitutional atrocities like NSPM-7 and the current plans for implementing it.
Yes to all of the above in Mary’s call to action. Yet, we cannot demand the release of medical records without the patient’s consent (HIPPA). And would the “president’s physician” even record adverse assessments in a medical record so politically precarious?
And what I cannot understand is why the world press isn’t pointing a finger at Netanyahu, who so obviously manipulated a mentally ill president into complicity and is taking advantage of USA’s military resources to further his own right-wing aims! Trump would not have done this without Bibi’s manipulation.
I’m not sure he has physical issues but his behavioral health is beyond evil. I think he’s always been this way it’s just escalating. I’m having an increasingly difficult time understanding how ANYONE can support him. We definitely need a regime change.
As I understand it, the 25th Amendment can only be invoked by the vice president or members of the cabinet. Good luck there. I hope I am wrong about who can invoke that Amendment. And Trump’s medical records are protected by HIPPA. I am afraid we will realize that the alternatives for removing Trump have been severely and purposefully limited. Perhaps placing an unpopular and weak stooge such as JD Vance into the presidency has been the plan of the Heritage Foundation all along, and they judged that Trump would not survive his presidency for one reason or another.
Be that as it may, our immediate situation I believe to be similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis, with real possibilities of escalation into use of nuclear weapons. However, this time, it is our president (he doesn’t deserve capitalization) not a McNamara, who poses the threat of catastrophic escalation. I wish I knew what safeguards we have here in 2026. Generals? Retired generals? Military committed to their oaths? And at the cost of democratic governance? The current legislative branch has been effectively neutered, and the judiciary is neither nimble nor powerful enough to stand as the sole bulwark.
While we cannot place hope in elections that are months away to limit Trump’s powers in the immediate situation, the authors of Project 2025, and Trump himself of course, cannot and will not accept loss of power a year from now. Threats to any and all future elections are obvious. We must all do whatever we can do. Personally, I plan to become a poll worker and legal observer, but our remaining elected Representatives and Senators whom we believe to be of integrity must continuously be told that we depend on them to rise to the moment. True patriotism and ethics must “trump” political position. That’s the faith we placed in them when we elected them to represent us.
I plan on copying this to my Representatives and Senators, although I live in a “blue” state and district. At this point in our history, colors don’t matter.
