Hallelujah! We have reached a crossroad of containment and a stare down of tyranny. Our real patriots have spoken and lines in the sand are appearing. The walls of justice and a growling discontent of the public are closing in around Trump and his MAGA thugs. Treason is in the eye of the beholder. The rule of law is a collective covenant, not the arbitrary proclamation of a tyrant. The tide appears to be turning, Trump is quickly weakening, his coalition is thinly committed, and morally bankrupt. Once winds of resistance escalate, Trump’s house of cards will rapidly collapse.
One must wonder at the affect his words had on military veterans and their understanding of moral conduct. In battle sometimes, some likely wanted to say no, but in war, things move fast and a wrong move is death. But these boats, they are miles away, small craft and for the most part, have fishing rigs attached.
A real problem now has been an attrition of military brass that are true soldiers and could not abide by the violations they are commanded to shoulder. They resign rather than capitulate. Stripping away the JAG authorities and inspectors general, those that remain and capitulate are then following orders blindly. The veteran legislators are very timely in their admonishment concerning the oath of allegiance that every soldier has taken. The law remains immutable, the Constitution is clear.
We the People through our legislative representatives must become the default watchdogs when our executive branch goes rouge.
It's about time Democrats start doing more of these types of things. Letting the American people know what Trump and this administration is doing. I think it was a brilliant move that makes the Republicans look like idiots for going along with Trump and against the constitution.
We recruit kids, telling them that military service is a noble and honorable calling,.?Military members write a blank check to our country’, we put our lives in hands of civilian leaders and then we get called to blow up defenseless speedboats. We get called to take lands and property so billionaires can get richer.
And when a warfighter uses deadly force against his moral code , obeys a questionable order, he lives a lifetime of regret, he deals with the trauma. It’s those veterans that have the most severe PTSD. The horrors multiply exponentially for themselves and those who love them. We lose an average of 18 veterans a day to suicide, many because they can’t live with the horrors they were compelled to inflict.
It’s chickenshit to put the blame and responsibility on the soldier. When will Americans stop supporting the two-party system that only gives up politicians that kowtow to billionaires?
My 8th grade Civics teacher is cheering for the people from his grave. He was my idol. Next to him is my college American Government professor. She too is calling us from the other side to stand up for our democracy. Let’s go!
Lots of noisy ghosts there, Annie. Gotta say, my dad, retired USAF officer, would be fn appalled at this state of affairs. He was so apolitical he never voted. I would absolutely love to hear his take on these six veterans and their bravery and admonishment to soldiers. What must he think of Trump calling them traitors? As a former HS history/civics teacher myself, I hope that the lessons taught in my classrooms are coming in handy for the young people.
I am proud to say that Chrissy Houlahan is my representative. We first elected her in 2018 when Donald Trump single-handedly flipped the Philadelphia suburbs from red to blue at the national and county levels. Earlier this month he flipped the townships, the school boards, and made it easy for our Democratic judges to retain their seats. This man-child needs to be backed into his playpen and left there with little harmless toys until we can be rid of him. Now these six veterans, the adults in the room, have taken a valuable first step.
Threats against (and murder of) politicians isn't new. But the idea that a sitting president can claim members of Congress are committing treason and inciting unlawful rebellion, is beyond dangerous.
In Trump's first term a lot of people who hadn't voted for him dismissed his election with "The majority voted for him, so we'll just wait it out. How bad can it be?" Among non-MAGAts there was a collective sigh of relief when Biden won the 2020 election.
Then came Trump 2.0, and again, there was a lot of "The people have spoken, but he'll be gone for good in four years. How bad can it be?" Within less than a year of his return, we're finding out "bad" is beyond belief - and it's likely we've not seen the worst yet.
Kudos to the six. We recognize police officers, firefighters, military troops, etc. knowingly put their lives in danger. No elected official should have to fill a political office feeling they are risking their lives for their office.
p.s. I was incensed when first the Tea Party and then the Oath Keepers (Three Percenters, Proud Boys, et al.) began to use "Don't Tread on Me" as their slogan. But I think "Don't Give Up the Ship" is even more appropriate. I'm sure, after the video, it will now be taken up for democracy. If we needed a rallying cry, that'll do it!
It's difficult to find a battle veteran who does not reveal how much their actions in war affected them back home. Grown men unable to function because their nightmares and PTSD overpower them. Veterans who recall one event that changed them: how they killed a child, or blew up a family, or watched their buddies die. War is hell and the aftermath: war wacky, shell shock, battle fatigue has been well documented. Today, these men and women who push the kill button on the fishermen/drug dealers in their little boats and watch as they blow unarmed nonthreatening people to smithereens will come back with mental issues. Sometimes they turn the horror onto themselves (military/veteran suicides are astronomical), or turn it on others (half of mass shooters). I believe if this young sailor/soldier said no, and suffered through military prison and court martial, they would not be filled with self loathing like soldiers who go headlong into civilian villages and kill, kill, kill, but rather they will be considered by many of us as heroes and they will be honored as such.Just say no.
Gosh, it seems that his dementia is progressing. He might be adding insanity to the mix, or he might just be parroting his advisors. Sounds like Steven Miller, who should know better.
I certainly hope someone of competence takes the reins before he hits the red button and The Leavitts , LCC ( code name for Leavitts Complicit Coup ) say , “ what he really meant to hit was the table not the nuclear button” .
The world waits biting their nails while Jason Crow and the brave few rise from the five alarm fire’s dust . Bravo👏
Watching from Britain, I was appalled to see recruits at Trump's birthday shuffle past (oops! Historic commemoration of the U.S. Army) swearing to obey all orders from the President. The wording of the oath was strangely familiar: "Ich schwoere bei Gott, dass Ich dem Fuehrer, Adolf Hitler..."

Freedom ain't free, brother.

Do ICE and border patrol agents take oaths to uphold the constitution? They haven’t been acting like it.
I just cannot see it, but I imagine they do. Perhaps with a smirk.
Good question!

Everything he touches turns to dust…
Don’t give up the ship …( sinking ship?)

It wouldn't surprise me if Trump said that the executions of these Senators should be Public, Quick and Televised. Guess who he would be quoting?
Im going to say Putin?
Good guess. It was actually Charlie Kirk. There is a video of it on a podcast.
