SCOTUS, Heritage Foundation, Russel V, Peter T, and Andreessen need to be in the news. They are getting what they want for the future and they are getting it; by gutting things in their way. Getting power back will not be available by voting in the future. They are working on that now.

Evidence and reason are the foundation of our Republic. The men who crafted our Constitution were infused with enlightenment values: facts, proof, human dignity rooted in the capacity for rational thought.
When Trump pardons and rewards malicious felons whom grand juries and juries of peers found guilty according to proof and law, he is saying everything our Constitutional system once stood for is garbage he can toss out on a whim. Like the KGB operative he most reveres, Trump deploys techniques of manipulation and control of others with every word and act that substitutes base emotions and fantasies for evidence and reason.
PS: Last night we watched director Kathryn Bigelow’s new movie about the perils of ignoring nuclear proliferation, The House of Dynamite. An unknown enemy has launched a nuclear warhead directed toward the Midwest. From the young military officers in Alaska who first sound the alarm, to national security advisers, Senators and the President, those in charge of our fictional government are portrayed as diverse by race and gender, skilled in their disciplines, and dedicated to making the right decisions based on evidence and logic. What’s most terrifying about the film is realizing she’s portraying the government we once assumed all of us wanted, and imagining Trump and his government of incompetents, racists, misogynists and liars in a comparable crisis.
Thank you for all your hard work. You just can’t make this up anymore… The Swiss-brain riddled oof who put all farmers in the hot pot of water like frogs which resulted in very low crop prices and decreased demand for their products as a result of his disaster tariff policies. Wants to believe he’s some knight in shining armor riding in with additional orange-bronzer plastered to his face when presenting all those farmers a $12 billion bailout program from the Dept. of Agriculture from the tax payers.
So all taxpayers get double slapped including farmers, we all paid the prices upfront the slap on the face, and will pay the price on the backside with the bailout from our taxes. Can’t wait for the slaps from the sides…
China hitting their historic milestone: at $1.08 trillion trade surplus he kinda did make them “bend the knee” in “Total Admiration” like you prayed that someone as dumb as an idiot would give you a huge windfall!! Dang we all can see the entire population of China giving him a “Thumbs up” from across the Pacific Ocean and no one in the USA needs binoculars…
Not even going to go into RFK Jr. and Quacks of junk drawer science that have desecrated the CDC, that once upon a time came out with preventative measures to save lives versus killing people, especially children. Language wouldn’t be appropriate.
Our reality is now of an executive branch that is a kleptocracy-kakistocracy-plutocracy-authoritarian regime all wrapped up into one with a complicit, sniveling Congress awaiting for scrapes and as an extra bonus a corrupt Supreme Court ensuring all can get away with it… Some may say a perfect storm if we allow it… However these individuals don’t understand how strong and powerful We the People are .. Bullies have never won .. especially those bullies who need naps often even while others are pouring on the syrup of admiration…
Mary, we live up the coast from you in Newport. Not that that is relevant beyond worrying that we might have to leave this beautiful place to escape agent orange. Your essays are brilliantly incisive. We just returned from two months in Europe and didn’t meet a single person who didn’t think Trump is a malevolent fool. But it goes beyond Trump, who is just a tool (in both senses of the word), for the obscene forces that manipulate him.
Our country will survive, but it’ll take years to recuperate. Despite the 25% of the population left still listening, defending him-even from their jails …those Mary’s that debunk, describe, and deliver the truth will be the beacon of hope that kept the Faith.
