Another important story that was missed due to the "attacker" story was the completely illegal firing of the whole National Sciences board, to be replaced by trumpian loyalists with his militaristic agenda. The board was designed by Congress to be non-partisan, with six year terms so no president could take it over. Trump fired them all anyway with no justification.

Hopefully, lawsuits will follow. At least some lower federal courts still care about the separation of powers and rule of law.

I guess it is American gold if it is mined in the Western Hemisphere. Eye opening story.

Our politics is swiftly descending from ideological to existential. Trump has exploded the flood gates of corruption and lawlessness, allowing an unfettered feeding frenzy of gluttonous greed. While the oligarchs and other assorted puppet masters extract their special favors, Trump plays in his sandbox of imaginary grownup power fantasies. First, he casts his simpleton tariff edict, based on third grade economic logic. Then he builds his own domestic army and quickly demonizes half of the American population as traitors and evil. Now, he descends into playing with soldiers and war.

Lacking any bench strength of expertise in anything, assembling sycophantic courtiers as his governmental cabinet, Trump now faces the perfect storm of tariff consequences, his checkmated deadlock with the Iranians, and his alienation from all of our traditional allies.

Trump does not know what he does not know. His arrogant intransigence and willful dismissals leaves him only able to seek distractions and create deeper delusional reckonings.

The GOP Congress now owns this mess. Reality is crashing down on all the gaslighting and manipulations. It is now time to break the glass in case of fire. We need a Congressional FEMA response to our burning country.

MAGA’s quick pivot from thwarted attack to marketing the “ballroom” and exalting Trump as a target because he is so special shows how these folks think: it’s all a show with an occasional requirement for improv. Write the script, sell the plot line.

I’m still hoping pride goeth before the fall, although psychopaths and nihilists seem to hold most reins of global power these days. What we don’t want is Trump as a MAGA martyr, however.

It looks like the Correspondent's Dinner turned out to be more like a Salute to the Second Amendment :-)

I know Trump really wants his ballroom but it's amazing how a security scare instantly turns into a “we need to build the ballroom" meme. At a certain point it makes you wonder if the whole thing was staged.

Besides… doesn't the president travel to places that aren’t “bombproof” or is the Bunker Ballroom suddenly the only safe option now?

Well, this just shot my whole Monday to hell! I guess I need to get to Costco & buy frozen veggies in bulk and contemplate the fact that American streets are paved with dirty gold!

Richard Murphy stated that "we are going to be short of oil...short of food... short of raw materials".. and of course the operative word there is "WE"... it will not be the WE of trmp, Musk, and the uber rich... it will be the WE of the folks who have middle income jobs, who work hourly jobs, who rely on their cars to get paid every day... while the other "WE" hole up on their yachts, mansions, and fortified compounds, reminiscent of what used to happen in South American dictatorships... the fact that there were so many cabinet members, the VP, congress people from the republican party there makes one wonder exactly what the hell was going on. also very odd that a few minutes after an alleged assassination attempt, he is busy not talking about that, but talking about his ball room... they continue to tear down the country from the inside, both in terms of institutions and now in the physical sense of the word, with the east wing, the reflecting pool, his stupid-ass arch, etc. and the most stunning part, the members of the "tradition.. law and order... conservative... America first party" look away... do nothing. the gold trail does not surprise me in the least... one merely needs to look at the history of what we preach about "blood gold, blood diamonds, hunting endangered animals, etc. " vs what we actually do and support to know that this simply follows suit...
