The big university hospitals in our large cities have special rates in hotels, and sometimes Ronald McDonald houses, for familiies traveling in who need accomodation. Might want to ask the hospital if they have any arrangements that would help.
Perhaps your reportorial chops might be slathering just now for the story on an outfit I never heard of until they cancelled my surgery a few weeks ago, US Anesthesia Partners.
When the anesthesiologist puts you under at a major hospital, it's more than likely this doctor has nothing to do with the hospital itself. Private equity has moved hard into this field -- so hard that USAP cut enough corners to earn a lawsuit from the State of Colorado it had to settle for a mere $400 million last year.
But not so hard that it was forced to accept a consent decree to do better, and continues to do business as usual with many major hospitals around here, including mine. What they are doing there is, well, let's just say it's a new level of absurd when I climb a 2000-foot gain mountain by bike one day and learn the next day I'm too weak to survive surgery.
Sorry if I'm stating the obvious to a health-care veteran, Shanley, but have you asked the hospital where Ezra's going, to refer you to to a place to spend the night? I've heard of this being done, to help families from "out-of-town". Can't hurt to ask, is my motto.
I wonder: if you contacted https://generationofhopeinc.org/pages/about_us/contact_us
would they maybe have a family with a guest room who could accommodate you overnight?

I have been both the recipient and host of such hospitality.
We hosted for an org like that in Boston, where world-class pediatric care has families from all over the world sleeping in the hallways.

Ronald McDonald was our home away from home for several years. So grateful to all the people who made that possible with their generosity.
'Health care equity,' huh?

Sounds as if it is all finally coming together for Ezra; Good luck with the accommodation.
