Your writing is normally phenomenal and I look forward to reading your posts...until today when my faith in your writing was rattled. Your dialogue about the Renee Good murder has me questioning everything you write!
"Video analysis and eyewitness accounts show her standing beside her vehicle when she was shot"?!!
Yes we know that you have reported it accurately in the past and that is why it is vitally important that you make the correction now - immediately. Otherwise there will be the hordes of trolls just waiting for the chance to discredit your very important work.
A few comments. Good was inside her vehicle, trying to drive away, when she was shot. Her wife was the one standing beside the vehicle. Pretti was shot ten times by two agents while he was restrained. I think it's important to emphasize how vicious these people are. And finally, it's high time judges stopped talking about contempt and started acting on it. This isn't something you want to negotiate. It's bad faith by the federal government and it has to stop.
Also, I think it is important to always add the phrase "shot in the back" when referring to Alex Pretti's shooting. A person with his back to you (not to mention prone on the ground) is not a threat.
I still have full faith in you, Mary, and I DO KNOW that mistakes do happen, but an error does need to be recognized and noted by the author in their publication.
Please change your inaccurate statement about Renee Good. Media correction boxes are designed to acknowledge mistakes, which happen. But to keep the error moves from being a mistake to reporting malpractice. It's blatantly wrong and discredits your important writing.
I completely agree Christine; also I noted "Katherine" Rampell rather that Catherine. That is a minor point, but that and then the Renee Good statements gave me pause. Mary's writing has been so important to me in my efforts to just read facts with wonderful, thoughtful analysis. I can only imagine how hard it is to be such an Observer as Mary, to day after day (and often several columns in a day), and not occasionally have an OOPS.
I took it as an intended reference to the ICE agent who shot her, standing beside the car and not threatened with her running him over, as the official version reported it. But it should be corrected.
After a year of "flood the zone" assaults on America, we are exhausted...and so are they. Trump, Miller, Voight, Vance and their enablers are running out of ways to distract us and are getting both more deadly and more sloppy. We have to hold on and gain back some power in the midterms to begin to win our existential fight. We have no choice. ✊
Exhausting, just exhausting. Twump posts that disgusting video and that creep Kkkaroline Leavitt says we are manufacturing rage? I saw the still picture from the video and it made me tear up. How did we get back here? As a history teacher we show kids such racist creations after the Civil War for the next hundred years made to dehumanize American Blacks. But for our beloved president and his incredible wife to be treated like that by the POTUS is beyond, so beyond, the pale it makes me sick.
But then my brothers and sisters in the Milan stadium boooooooed Commander Judy Vance and I got a little payback, didn't I?
Keep going Mary, it is exhausting to write this column everyday, and yet necessary. I caught the mistake about Renee Good as well, and I saw it for what it was, exhaustion, perhaps. You are carrying a tremendous weight to get all of this, what you aptly describe as a fire hose of shit, that it is remarkable you don't make more mistakes. Be happy your readers are sharp-eyed. We know the truth and we want to make sure the truth is repeated just as many times as the lies are.
“ Quick note of clarification: in yesterday’s roundup, I misstated a detail in describing Renée Good’s killing. I wrote she was standing beside her vehicle when she was shot. Most of you understood I meant her killer, Jonathan Ross was beside her car, but accuracy matters, so I’m correcting the record here. Not making excuses, but my grammar-checking app was not functioning and I was focused on commas, colons, semicolons and manually policing punctuation like it was 1850. Still, I should have caught my error.”
This is the first of your posts that I don't feel comfortable sharing because of the Renee Good video where you say she was standing beside her car. Not from what I saw.
I too think this seemingly small, but actually grievous, error about Renee Good's position when shot should be corrected immediately. As a new subscriber I've so far found myself believing in Mary's work and appreciating her point of view. Another big error like this will cause me to doubt.

"Video analysis and eyewitness accounts show her standing beside her vehicle when she was shot"?!!
What?? Where did that come from????
If you’ve read my previous posts on this matter then you know I know she was in her car when Ross murdered her.
Yes we know that you have reported it accurately in the past and that is why it is vitally important that you make the correction now - immediately. Otherwise there will be the hordes of trolls just waiting for the chance to discredit your very important work.
OK, so why say in your article that she was standing beside her vehicle when she was shot? Her wife was standing beside the car and wasn't shot.
Then why such a silly mistake in changing the details here?
I’m confused
Thank you for the correction. Faith is restored and I look forward to reading your excellent work!

BUT, owning them is crucial.

This is incorrect, please issue a retraction, STAT!

And today’s post was masterful save the Good distraction. So what…A-???
Thank you, Mary!

Crypto, that magical libertarian fantasy where money is vibes and regulation is oppression... nailed it

Did you mean to say Good's wife was beside the car when Renee Good was shot?
