Your columns are incredible. As for Rhea how lovely she is in a place where love lingers. Grief someone said is not holding onto loss but holding onto love. She was clearly loved.

I love that about grief. I’m a bereaved parent. Thank you.

One has to wonder how all this insanity can happen in the space of a few hours, but Trump's unfiltered mouth just seems to make it all possible even if it's not plausible. Your words bring us together not only in mourning the events, but in giving hope in numbers who agree with you. We're in this together and I am the better for your pearls of enlightenment each day. Thanks, Mary, and a tip of the heart to you, your daughter, and Rhea. There are five lovely pet's buried on my homesite of 25 years and each brought and still bring smiles when I think of the joy they brought to me. Hugs to all!

This. This. Is a masterpiece. I just texted it to my limit of 30 friends and family.

I’m sorry to hear about your daughter’s cat Rhea. Our fur babies live on in our hearts forever. I wanted to add that you nailed so many points in this newsletter. With the comment…

“A convicted sex trafficker has more procedural protection than a BLS statistician doing her job.” I just had to stop and let that settle for 5 minutes. So many feelings and thoughts with that insight. :-(

Mary coming on the scene is perfect timing. Giving thanks. ‘The pearls’ of life , The Marys, Ruths, Heathers…that Substack has such gifts for our eyes and minds. Ahh yes….giving thanks.

We are living in the fantasy of Hans Christian Andersens’ ..’The Emperor’s New Clothes’.

I worry as the results surface to the kettle of reality BOILING OVER, not for myself hoping the long prep keeps me safe..but for the hoarders of Trump ,et al , and the damage.

Best of luck to the innocent.

See ya at the protests.

The refrain I hear frequently now: “How can he do that?” Or “can he do that?”

Not too long ago, it seemed every court ruling as well as the raging right wing noise machine were haranguing President Biden for misusing and exceeding his executive powers.

Now Trump appointees on every appeals court and the Supreme Court are crowning Trump king, free to violate laws with phony justifications or no justification at all, with devastating consequences.

It’s not only firing federal employees without cause when the law requires cause, or recklessly usurping Congress’s tariff authority based on personal love/hate moods not “emergencies”, or allowing federal agencies to disappear based on patently unconstitutional executive orders - ostensibly to allow cases to be decided years from now.

Three judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals - two appointed by Trump - just allowed Trump to deprive federal employees of their union rights despite overwhelming evidence Trump acted against these unions with malice, not for the bogus cover of “national security”.

So now the mad king reigns supreme, enabled by his fellow coup operatives in Congress and the courts, cowardly main stream media and corporate leaders, fact-blind cultists in the MAGA base, apathetic citizens and an ineffective opposition without leaders.

Yuk! Another day of reminders we have a lot of work to do!

I am so sorry for your loss of Rhea. I had to say goodbye to my beloved Boxer. Maybe they are together now free of body limitations and making good mischief.
