Agreed. Now that I am 90 years old I can see that parenthood is one of the traps from which my personal shortcomings and those of my parents made me ripe for economic indenture. Thank heavens school loans were not yet marketed. If I had had school loans I would likely still be in debt.

I hope Substack works for you. I know your children will thank you for having parented them.

An excellent essay of how we are all trapped in a system of extortion. So many excellent points. Kudos.

This is an incredible analysis. It clearly shows example after example of the disturbing truths of life in America for the very few "haves" and the vast majority of "have-nots".

Brilliant article! And in the end the power, lack of compassion and cruelty ends up devouring us all. We can change this. It is not a problem of scarcity but of greed, lust for power and the perceived perception of control that comes with wealth.

This should be taught in high school. When I was young I thought I could use one credit card to pay another one. 🤷‍♂️

The waste we generate is sad. Inciting people to want, want, want is criminal. Conspiring to sell less for more is disgusting. Knowingly producing and selling unhealthy products is sociopathic. What happened to our values, our sense of fairness, decency, respect for others, respect for ourselves? Your information, Shanley, is spot on and not very often thought thru to the extent you have. What do we need to do to get all of this on a better track?
