These ancient Dems (coming from an old lady) have got to step down and let a new generation come in. They need to always remember three words which if done differently might have changed absolutely everything we have to endure right now. Ready? Ruth. Bader. Ginsburg.
I keep thinking about the friendship between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson that survived their differences in opinion which may have led to some interesting dialogues.
Mary- I loved your paragraphs on the Democratic Party. I too left it after 40 years because I saw the light through Hillary Clinton lying to all of us regarding the basement server issue and thinking that we wouldn't see it, or we would forgive her because it was her turn to be President. Then I read Thomas Frank's Listen Liberal, and that was it. My criticism of the party during 2016 led to Democratic friends getting real nasty with me and turning their backs. I ended up voting for Jill Stein. Another recent Dem I admire is Melanie Stansbury of NM.
Heather Cox reported that Trump got fired up about Portland when he watched a Fox News report on it that showed violent scenes from Portland from 2020 which he thought were happening now. He apparently not only doesn't get daily security briefings, he gets nothing from any staff on anything, which makes him even more dangerous.
You give him to much credit to say he thought the violent videos in Portland were current. He just doesn’t care. He references a lot of outdated events as being current in addition to events that he just makes up.
Well I didn't mean to give him credit....only to point out that he has no knowledge of what is going on because he is running a totally incompetent administration with unbounded ignorance.
As a government shutdown looms, MAGAs in the White House, Executive Branch and Congress seem to be having a grand time acting out their authoritarian fantasies for public show - fascist theater in lieu of anything remotely serious like governance.
And it's only Monday??? Every day brings a new outrage and/or tragedy. A friend reminded me that we have lived to see another day before in our ravaged country politics. This may be true, but the past leaders have never seemed so full of revenge against the people. I might even consider rejoining those Dems if they show a spine. Mamdani fills me with hope!
Our “leader” believes he’s entitled to retribution! No matter that he committed the crimes he was indicted for. How dare we hold HIM accountable. So the nation will pay!
My heart did a happy dance reading your comments about candidates actually putting agendas on the table that speak TO the people and not just dipping their toes in the water. We absolutely need a reason to fight FOR something other than the suppression that tRump and his minions are pulling us toward. It’s the part about needing something to fight for that especially resonated with me. Also I hope the flotilla makes it to Gaza. We should be helping in that humanitarian effort. So sad…
I just retired, after 50 years in the mental health field. If he takes away Medicaid he’s not only taking insurance for individuals with physical health issues he will be taking away the insurance that individuals with mental health issues, willing to take medication that treats mental health issues. I guess then he’ll have an excuse to bring on the military. Though he doesn’t seem to care if people get murdered now.
Thank you for an excellent summary of just how far the US of bygone days has fallen. I don't know what disturbs me most, the spinelessness of Congressional Democrats, Kegbreath's Quantico loyalty test, or the deployment of the US military against our own citizens.

Have you listened to James Talrico lately? His is a voice that has been missing as well.
I’ll check him out
He is a Texan running in a red district. Emphasizes how his faith encourages him to love his neighbor even when they disagree.

I've never been a "single issue" voter, but Medicare for All could change my mind on that.
Frontotemporal dementia
Yes! 100%
