Wow so scary, the bad guys have so much Stolen Wealth! How to stop them? Voting and when he smashes that a Rebellion! He gave us plenty of guns! Idiot!
So, even more than the $2.4 billion grift that has been reported. I hope he lives long enough to be prosecuted. You note "Trump didn’t create the debt; both parties built it over decades." which is true; of the 244 years by the end of his second term, he'll have been president for just over 1.6% of the life of the country. He is reported to be responsible for 25% of the national debt. In one term. Second term is looking to be even worse. He is indeed running the country like his business.
Some things never change, like DJT. In her September 1990 Vanity Fair article, After the Gold Rush, profiling Donald and Ivana Trump post-divorce, journalist Marie Brenner observed:
“I thought about the ten years since I had first met Donald Trump. It is fashionable now to say that he was a symbol of the crassness of the 1980s, but Trump became more than a vulgarian….Trump appeared to believe that his money gave him a freedom to set the rules. No one stopped him. His exaggerations and baloney were reported, and people laughed. His bankers showered him with money. City officials almost allowed him to set public policy…. New York City, like the bankers from the Chase and Manny Hanny, allowed Trump to exist in a universe where all reality had vanished.”
And here we are 36 years later, in a world where far too many with power and wealth allow Trump to exist in a universe where all reality has vanished. The damage of this pattern is incalculable.
I don’t know how many generations it will take to repair the damage Trump will do in four short years. It is disheartening to think about. But there is one image that gives me courage….the absolute razing to the ground of every monument he builds to himself.

I often ask myself, "How do these people sleep at night?" Then I remember, "They don't care, so they sleep just fine." Truly stomach-turning.
We are simply fcuked. That is not pessimism: it's reality.

Who knew Vanity Fair was staffed by prophets!!
Brilliant piece. Thank you for connecting the dots!
