I will be cavalry when I get a horse, otherwise, I'm a foot soldier for America. You know the saying, the center cannot hold? If Trump is the center of this tornado of trash swirling about our government, how long can he hold? As the winds build with each secretary increasing their drama for the benefit of a boss who gets distracted easily, the whole thing gets unwieldy. I gotta believe MAGA does not think "ICE all over the Super Bowl" is cool. Or MAGA in Chicago thinks that their city needs troops gassing its citizens, or likewise Portland (where MAGA might be hard to find). Will the farmers take the bailout money and burn their crops and think, "Oh good, just what I busted my back for?" Meanwhile, my fellow infantry for democracy must boycott, march, wave their placards and keep their peaceful protests going. The center will fall apart. We will win. We cannot lose.
I wouldn't trust the SCOTUS for anything but rubber-stamping approval for whatever Trump wants. If a lower court (any lower court) decides a case (any case) without a favorable ruling for Trump, when it gets to the SCOTUS, the Faithful Five will find a way to twist law, justice, even the Constitution itself to Trump's favor.
Another great summary of the fine mess we have put ourselves into—and apparently without recourse. Yes the dem's spine seems to finally have laid down some calcium, but it is still rickety and pockmarked at best—I hold no real hope for it when it is called upon to stand under any weight. And, clearly, ALL republican congresspeople have resolved to remain traitors to our constitution and democracy. Thus constantly writing and calling and pleading to Congress in hopes of some reasonable action seems ineffectual, if not a self-deluding fool's errand. We all know SCOTUS will find a way to screw us over the tariffs question as well as any restraining order we the people manage to secure on trump in the lower courts. And corporate America seems to be licking its chops for the economic collapse of the country - is it because they intend to pick over the carcass in hopes of securing more land and property? The media - forget it. They would adore images of the 82nd parachuting in on top of placard-carrying raggedy long-haired protestors. The universities and other vaunted institutions? Ha! Entertainers, artists, athletes, public figures (forgive my nostalgia for the Viet Nam War resistance) - well, short of a few of our late night talk show hosts (minus fallon), crickets.
So, I have a serious question reference the pipe dream of offering up some, ANY, form of effective resistance. It comes from my admittedly limited knowledge of the civil legal system. In the medical world we are aware of constant and oppressive presence of the litigation lawyers. Lawsuits drop over the landscape like the indiscriminate bombing of cities by maniacal despots. It colors ALL medical operations and interactions. It seems like our nation's litigation attorneys number in the tens, perhaps hundreds of thousands. With all the wretched things happening to so many, decent law abiding people, why aren't we seeing billion dollar claims dropping like apples in our autumnal fields? Isn't that how trump scratched and clawed his way to this absurd level of national prominence and impact? It seems that he seldom expects to win these suits. But the act of filing them oft seems to affect the results he wishes for. Can't we turn this against him? Or at least against his minions — particularly the thugs out there on our streets assaulting our friends, families, and neighbors? And for god's sake, can't we zero in on the malignant chains of command of all his criminalized agencies?
mostly good stuff, except your silly snipe at aoc and bernie. both of whom have actually been fighting for the people, while msnbc corporate piggies and the dnc, have spent more time fighting the people's voices, than they have fighting trump and fascism.
“the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact, upon public policy.”
