Wow ... kudos to the folks who thot of this stage production and then created it. Put a huge smile on my face this morning when I read about it. Standing ovation!!!
This was the first Super Bowl halftime show I have ever watched. I'm more into theater. But I was so happy I did because B Bunny gave us quite a performance. Although I am not the audience for B Bunny, I loved every minute. The Lady Gaga reveal was spectacular. She dressed, sang and moved to a Latin beat with a hit song she duets with Bruno Mars. I loved glimpsing the gay canoodling that went on in some of the crowd scenes. And while I am not into the girl's salacious dance moves, well there's about a hundred million men for whom it was choreographed, again not for me. But this lady of a certain age is an old rocker and boy oh boy, I love a good show and the Bunny gave us one. God is he gorgeous.
To remind ya Forrest’s famous quote “Gorgeous is as gorgeous does”..(well almost…😉?) to bring the world back into order , communion (if I may), and not fall -pray the words -despite the language spoken are that of love, togetherness, unify the rally back to peace and not the shallow pits hatred, addiction, racism, ego, authoritarianism .
Handsome/gorgeous ..may an eye never get too old …but that the message doesn’t let make-up, fame, or beauty be confused with truth.
the director was right.... reality moves along so fast that the parody becomes outdated within hours... parodies from a year ago seem like they were from a lifetime ago... should be viewed in black and white. this speaks to how fast we are collapsing under his weight, how fast the reputation of the US is coming undone, how fast our economy is becoming undone... the great irony in the reference to Opera and Bad Bunny... all across the country we listen and pay to see and hear performances of opera, the vast majority are in a foreign language, written by foreigners... we go to concerts, ballet, art museums all of which are chock full of non-english, non-American artists... i am surprised he has not tried to shut down the MET or forced orchestras to play only Gershwin and Copeland... of course the wonderful American women composers would be canceled as well simply because...they are women... dont laugh.. the Nazis did this in the 30s and 40s... they allowed Bach and worshipped Wagner who was an antisemite, but forbid performances of Mendelsohn because he was Jewish, along with other notables such as Mahler, Korngold, etc. we are not far from that. probably it flies under his radar because he is so out of touch with the fine arts... it is funny what foreign influences we embrace and which ones we reject... just like flowers... the difference between a flower and a weed is one we have decided to cultivate, the other we have decided to kill... as he sits in the oval office eating Mexican food or French pastries, his guests drinking French or Italian or Spanish wines, Whisky from Scotland.. somehow a performer who sings in Spanish is to be vilified.. the halftime show was far more entertaining than the game... We are standing too close, and we are now living through just what we have criticized others for... "how could they let this happen?" "how could they not see how bad this person was??"... history of everyone else has been so clear in hindsight to Americans, it is sort of Karmic to be on the flip side of that... hopefully he will continue to eat his own and continue to go after enough slices of our country that we can all see where the problem lies... it is bad bunny, Olympic athletes, health care workers, even Oz has to break and tell people to ignore all the other stuff and get measles vaccines..
He has killed culture in DC, shuttering the Kennedy Center with a plan to gut it. He complains constantly about this or that artist. I mean, it's good to be well-rounded but his only connection to the arts seems to be (ahem) Kid Rock and Lee Greenwood, both of whom have orange mouths from kissing the creep. Twump sat in front of me at a movie screening 40 years ago in NYC. He left 20 minutes in, his ADHD screaming.
if it aint about him, he has zero interest... and no one is talking about the lyrics to some of kid rocks songs.. where he sings about sex with underage girls... seems to be ok in the minds of the far right.. as long as you sing about pedophilia in English and with white skin... what he did to the Kennedy center is just a crying shame... organizations like that struggle enough in this country without him coming in there and trashing the performers, the name, the building...
Must disagree about the game… Seattle played lights out defense. It was a masterpiece. Kudos to the coach and players. Though I appreciate Bad Bunny and the pageantry, I wished a translated subtitle had been available without subscribing to Apple Music for the viewers at home. My rusty high school Spanish left me feeling left out.
they played very good defense, but... non-existent offense makes a defense look good. as for subtitles... just enjoy the music and the visuals... i cannot understand half the lyrics from pop music sung in English anyway. I remember when i was young my father who traveled on business all over the world brought back a tape of some cabaret music from France sung in French. it was beautiful and i loved it, played it over and over. one day my sister brought over her friend who majored in French and roughly translated the lyrics which were all pretty banal and forgettable... its music, the words are nice but not necessary to enjoy
probably lots of people felt the same way... amazing how threatened so many people were by it.... i wonder if that would have been the case had not trump made such a fuss about it... as an aside, glad Seattle won, NE has won too many...
Mary, I think it’s great that you’re devoting a lot of your time too getting approval for and creating community radio stations. Radio was my career for more than 40 years. If there’s anyway I can help just let me know.
Can you imagine? A super Bowl so embroiled in the slime that oozes from the WH into our country, that even the message of a true Jesus-adjacent philosophy: Love conquers hate, makes the magats angry. How could anyone disagree with that? Did the Turning Point super-Christians carry that message? Not if it wasn't convenient for them to do so.
Your column, again today, makes me feel more hopeful than desperate.
Hunter Hess for Mayor of the Winter House! Such a brave and articulate young man. I loved hearing from the young people who did not want to drag politics into the most important moment of their lives but when asked, spoke from the heart.
there are some European based classical music broadcast systems (medici.tv and others) that may eventually carry it, but given that it is new and being staged now, may not be available as pre-recorded... maybe can see it as a live event over a broadcast but it would have to do some digging
Given that a majority of Americans realize that, when it comes to the arts, all of your taste is in your mouth, I join the legions of your fellow citizens who don’t give a rat’s ass about your opinion of Bad Bunny's half-time show.
A legitimate chief executive would concern him or herself with important stuff.

TY Katy , well penned…you’ve “got it”.
Congratulations on the new station. Keep pushing out the word, wherever and whenever possible. Thank you.

There was a powerful message. His heart is in the right place. Now I can watch it and understand. Just not in the moment

Radio stations! Wonderful. When CPB comes back, you'll have support.
Three cheers for Bad Bunny and the Seahawks!
Is there any way to see that opera?

Trump doesn’t like Bad Bunny because he’s brown, speaks Spanish and he’s an American!
