Americans delivered a historic rebuke to Trump, Musk discovered the limits of billionaire influence, and Congress has responsibilities that cannot wait until January.
I appreciate your wider lens. You are correct that Americans want brakes on the MAGA freak show; to see the lawless, corrupt and incompetent held accountable; and a Congress that asserts its constitutional powers on behalf of We the People.
As you also note, the powerful won’t make it easy. According to Reuters, Vance, Vought and Miller already have plans to rule the next two years as if Congress doesn’t exist. We already know they have no intention to be hampered by the courts. Trump reportedly will be Mr. Veto.
Will the powerful guilty verdict in the case of Trump v. American voters change these plans? Will the bootlicking Trump enablers in the private sector continue to be cowardly and complicit?
I hope to take time to savor this historic moment and feel the relief and gratitude it brings! The next phase will require the energy and persistence that brought us to this day.
This a detailed and deft analysis. I’m glad you included the implicit suggestion that Republicans are now free to challenge Trump. I’m also glad you gave the reasons for being cautious and for setting priorities. Finally, I like your advice to Democrats to follow the money even if it goes back to their important financial backers.
Today is a day to truly appreciate what being an American is and what we stand for. Tomorrow the work begins to make sure ALL Americans appreciate and remember what a grand country we live in. I pray for the day we are just shades of purple, working as a whole, to preserve our nation and our unique democracy. A democracy built on ideals, ideals now only 250 short years old. And yet here we are, still standing. Our history—the good, the bad, and the ugly, is a testament to what can be accomplished when we work together. We owe that to those men who, 250 years ago, risked it all in the name of democracy. We owe it to them and our future generations.
Superb and very wise summary and recommendations
My Dear Mr. President:
RE: Mid-term Results
It could never be your fault, could it?
Nothing ever is.

We ask who owns the military. In this case a better question is who owns the media.

Thank you Mary Geddry, from Nova Scotia , for keeping me sane and making sense of all the overwhelming Trump bullshit.
Yay! Thank you

Thank you. Wide advice that I am hoping democrats follow!
Yes, legislate to undo stuff. But investigations and impeachments must be done for the record.
