In the past 30 years it seems that getting elected to higher office has become, not a goal, but a stepping stone to wealth. It used to be there were jobs you did to look good on a public service resume: college, armed forces, non-profits, community organizer, etc. These jobs and school got a person ready for elected office. But now the goal is not elected office but what happens in the elected office (get rich!) or after you leave office (get rich!). There are so few people running for office who I feel are genuinely interested in helping Americans. It is a grind that one must get through in order to enter the ultra-wealthy class.
