Pete Hegseth is a deeply insecure human being. His insecurity is displayed in all of his "macho" statements and actions. Freud called this a reaction formation. Hegseth is all puffed up, fearful of the shame of being seen as weak. This underlies his crude approach to everything, including all of his firing of top military offiers who just happen to be women, Black, and transgender.
It has often been claimed by MAGAns that Trump is playing multidimensional chess. In this case,it appears Iran is playing chess while Trump is playing Slap Jack.
This is what you get when totally unqualified people are placed in the top jobs. Roll on November, vote them all out before the damage becomes irreversible.
"Thom Tillis says the defense secretary has lost his confidence." If Hegseth really had his confidence, he is a dumb as a rock, which I don't believe. He thought he could play politics with a job that actually requires some competence, I assume because he didn't think Hegseth was dumb enough to fire all the generals who actually run the place. He was wrong.
"Susan Collins has called the removal of senior military leaders deeply troubling." Susan Collins has become her own punchline.
The old saying that amateurs do tactics while professionals do logistics has come home to roost, hasn't it?

The US president is making America, and by extension the West, look foolish. The incompetence of the current Trump administration could hardly be made clearer. Europe should therefore take a position independent of the US. As long as it fails to do so, Trump’s actions and statements will also be held against Europe. This must be Europe’s wake-up call.
