Stephen Miller’s latest attack on birthright citizenship takes the old “anchor baby” canard, dresses it in administrative language, and calls a constitutional rewrite visa enforcement.

If our so called “ leaders” find the time to rewrite the Constitution for children being born on mothers trip to the USA then let’s rewrite the second Constitutional amendment to say the right to bear arms can only be those that were in use two hundred and fifty years ago.

Instead, they wrote “all persons.” Post Civil War was not my area of history, but I know there was immigration before and after the Civil War. I'm not sure how citizenship for immigrants was obtained at the time, but I am sure that their value was recognized. Perhaps, "anchoring" children of immigrants with citizenship was intentional and wisely seen as an asset to our country.
the Court can't do anything unless and until someone brings a dispute before them. Administratively misreading the Court's decision, however much bad faith is involve, does not give the Court the power to say anything about it.
What about collective conscience? When you know you've ruled in error? When you know your rulings have been disregarded or circumvented? No penalties? Nothing? I don't believe this should stand. If justices who are pro djt can find all these excuses why he and his administration should follow the laws, surely there are moral justices on the right side of the law who can figure out ways to enforce the laws, no matter who breaks them.
Enforcement is the job of the Executive branch. Congress could hold hearings. But clearly, a circular firing squad at the moment. We'd better get the vote out!
It's funny. An argument I often hear suggests perhaps the "right to bear arms", while relevant in the late 18th century, perhaps should not be viewed in the 21st century as having the same context, relevance, or necessity. Perhaps its applicability should be revisited in the context of current culture, and not be viewed with the word by original word reverence it's granted these days. (cf. "cold dead hands").
Is Mr. Miller really suggesting the 14th Amendment deserves that sort of reconsideration and reversal in 21st century context, while the 2nd should remain somehow exempt from that sort of treatment, and should remain sacrosanct, word for original word?
