Meanwhile, back in reality for the masses, a pediatrician-recommended nighttime ER visit for our ill 8 month old grandson resulted in a bill of over $6000 - for little more than a check for Covid, RSV and pneumonia and thoughts and prayers his symptoms would not worsen. Insurance covered some but not all - millions of those without insurance or with scam insurance would be devastated by such a bill. Guess who couldn’t care less? Trump and everyone who enables and supports him. As you say, the bill comes due no matter what Trumpworld theatrics and fakery project.

So sad that with the recommendation of a licensed professional for your grandson the cost is so out of reach for many millions of households that a serious family discussion and decision would be mortgage/food/insurance premiums or needed ER evaluation. An ER visit for gut pain last April cost $30K or $5000/hour for the time it took with no definitive diagnosis. There will be no visits to the ET in my future.

Sincerely hope your dear grandson is healing quickly.

He recovered - but not until after the pediatrician advised a further assessment of his symptoms on a Sunday, this time by an urgent care group.

My daughter and her husband weighed options and acted prudently. No parent should ever have to decide to take risks with a baby’s health because of money, and yet here we are for millions of families in our country.

No other advanced “democratic” society has so abandoned its population’s general health and welfare so billionaires can amass more wealth and power with no significant responsibility to the common good or accountability for their corruption and greed. Wacko MAGA attacks on established science and proven medical care only add to the horror. When some say MAGA is a death cult, they have a point.

Call me outraged, because I am.

As the Trump blather and bullshit becomes ever more disconnected and destructive--AND, if possible, even MORE corrupt--you have to wonder how much more blood can be squeezed out of the pitiful stone of American finance...

I think Trump and his twisted spawn--AND his pet gangster cabinet--are playing with oil futures the way a kid plays with a yo-yo... I believe the the goal of these phony "negotiations" with Iran are less about stopping a war than manipulating the price of crude oil. Every time some bullshit announcement is made about the "don't-call-it-a-war" with Iran, somebody makes tens of millions of dollars on the future price of oil.

What a supreme, unmatched son-of-a-bitch this man is--He shouldn't be allowed in the same room with anybody under the age of 18. ...Time to call him by his true comic-book-reality-show-name- BRENT CRUDE!!

"Trump may claw his way back toward some weaker, messier, less effective version of the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, the one Barack Obama helped negotiate and Trump tore up because it had Obama’s fingerprints on it..."

Absolutely-- at the heart of the whole Iran debacle is Donald Trump's hatred/jealousy of Obama. If Trump had One Core Principle it was: if Obama did it, it must be undone. Loudly and publicly...as I explain here:

How to pronounce kayfabe? Thanks.

I think it's time to ask why the people in the Pentagon are going along with or even going forward with this joke of a "war" and the whole Hormuz show. Isn't anyone in the military putting their foot down over these actions, or even questioning them? Do we have an extension of the clown show that is the Trump administration also operating in the military?

He purged senior military officials he viewed as risky because they might think and act independently of the party line.

ALL of them? Are there none left in the Pentagon with courage?

Julie Bannerman's avatar

There must be some in higher ranks who see the perils of this administration - whether they have the courage and clout needed to put the reins on the Trump cabal remains to be seen!

this is quite brilliant analysis and writing - as usual, but you spoil us. Thank you.

And the description of stable coins may be helpful in a debate I have having with someone who should have more sense but who thinks they may be a good idea for some purposes.

kayfabe.....original word that became covfefe in Trump's mouth? Any one have the original covfefe quote?

John Gregory's avatar

I understand kayfabe as slightly adapted pig Latin, where the first consonant or syllable is tacked onto the end of the word with '-ay' added. So igpay atinlay... - but with "fake", that becomes "ake-fay", which is hard to pronounce. So the -k- is left at the front and a -b- sound tacked on to the end to give the word some substance. So .... kay-fa-be. (Completely independent of covfefe, so far as I can tell.)
