There are still many areas that are falling into the dark recesses of the federal morass such as the FBI removal today of 2020 ballots and election materials in Fulton County, GA. As Mary Trump has written on more than one occasion, Trump hates to be called a loser. That is totally unacceptable to him. The ability Kash Patel’s squad to disqualify, erase or in some way change 2020 election would, in Trump’s skewed version of reality give him legitimacy. These materials have been overseen and counted three times, btw. How far our system of government and checks and balances has fallen that one mistrusts every department or representative.
Dear Ms. Geddry - I would love to know, well, who you are. Where did you come from? What is your background? Because suddenly I look to your columns every day just like I do with Joyce Vance and Heather Cox Richardson - to inform me and to touch me. You're remarkable. And we thank you.
The families of these two men, Chad Joseph and Rishi Samaroo, fishermen from Trinidad and Tobago, are suing for relief and accountability in their horrific murders. That is some good news out of the chaos Twump et al have created. Hard to find good news in all of this shit, and how sad good news comes from tragedy.
Excellent piece Mary. This feels like a race, at least in the US. Can accountability measures work in the timeframe needed to change behavior. Cheryl Doran Girard, in her comment below, raises an excellent point re the FBI's recent raid in Fulton County. No doubt there is a plan to come up with 'evidence' to support Trump's argument that the election was rigged, much as the DOJ will never get done with its redacting in the next 3 years! And so on. Your premise is the right one and I just hope the accountability process can move quickly enough across the US and its former fans across the globe! Keep up the excellent work Ms. Geddry.
great discussion of the French response. The alternate reality of DOJ arguing against its own position boggles the mind. It is the same problem with trump's big suit against the IRS. The statute of limitations has run on his claims. If DOJ fails to assert this as a defense, the trip through the looking glass will be complete.
Not only French companies are feeling the heat arising from ICE. Canadian companies, notably the web service Hootsuite, are much criticized for contracting with ICE, and the Jim Pattison Group, a very large private real estate - and much else - conglomerate is apparently selling land in Virginia for an ICE facility.

Thank you Mary. It looks like the dots are getting connected tight enough to form a line. We can follow that line.

Your summation of “now” helps me to feel like we can get through this!! 👊
Excellent essay!! Hopefully, prescient and prognostic.

Wow Mary, what an excellent piece of writing. 😀 There is still a very long way to go, but maybe at last some green shoots of hope are pushing through.

Man of the year...
bear of the year, perhaps.
I like that.
