I’m not a real doctor but my diagnosis is “chronic moral deficiency complicated by chronic lack of acceptable ethos”. No vaccine for either. I’ve heard the prognosis is not good. It all starts showing up as rotting hands and swollen cankles before spreading to garbled speech and total confusion……Looks like we’re already at Stage 5.
As usual Mary, you strike at the heart of things. Thanks. My following riff springs from your comments.
“…only a president playing soldier with other people’s children.” Truer words were never spoken. By contrast to Trump’s bellicosity, President Eisenhower commented “ “I hate war as only a soldier who has lived it can, only as one who has seen its brutality, its futility, its stupidity.” In the domestic, we have Kent State in our history. In the midst, Speaker Mike Johnson et al joining the Man Who Would Be King characterizing a legitimate protest as “haters of America.” The Kent State students were denigrated as such. The young guardsmen felt threatened. The conditions are ripening. I hope our courts remain strong.
In this theme, God save the Republic if the SCOTUS guts the VRA. To disenfranchise, potentially, so many Americans will reopen the events leading to its creation. Except. We have no MLK. If the Right thinks “woke” is bad, a population with their essential civic right—the vote & representation—cancelled will remind them what “woke” is about. We narrowly avoided greater crisis in the sixties. Unfortunately, those of us who recall vividly are greying out.
In the end, it is greed. So our emissaries are Kushner and Witkoff. Pretty cool. In the last episode of the Qatari Jet with the Classic Bordello trim, Qatar gets a base in Idaho. In Gaza, a Trump Hotel on the Med, and Israel the West Bank.
Once again I thank Mary for keeping me informed, in a way I can ingest. Earliest pearl is, "Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, swept into Gaza in crisp shirts and mirrored sunglasses, guided by Israeli officers and a U.S. admiral who looked like he’d rather be anywhere else. Officially, it was a “post-conflict stabilization tour.” Unofficially, it was a real-estate inspection, the kind you do when you’re planning to rebuild what your friends helped level."
Because your words face the truth head on each and every day, Mary, you are #1 on my reading list. The twists and turns of many other journalists keep us wondering which side of the story they're on and how much of what they write is suppressed for public scrutiny. I appreciate your candid reporting, humor, and truthiness (stolen from Colbert) so much. The fawning of a cease fire/peace agreement reported by the MSM to many citizens leaves so much to the imagination. This is an evil administration that cannot end soon enough. May the fall of their reign of terror be in our immediate future. All of those elected legislators who stood by this fascist regime should be immediately relieved of duty which would gut the Congress, however, lead to so many doors opening that we can only imagine. Onward! No Kings Day is the 1st door opening!
"The Atlantic put it best: Trump is “a man racing upward on a downward-moving escalator.”
That metaphor could be a perfect bookend for Trump's exit. The emperor has no clothes, and the whole world can see it. The excuses sound thinner by the day, the loyalists look nervous, and the act is wearing out — it’s a cover story unraveling in real time.
I think a slippery slope made greasy by the spray tan running down and off his failing body is a good metaphor as well. I can see Trump sprawling upwards, on hands and knees, not making it an inch, but slipping slipping slipping. The escalator, while it does follow Trump around, seems unlikely because Trump can not walk up steps, much less a moving step. I dunno, to me he is a pile of slobber at the bottom of whatever incline he cannot make it up.
What on earth is the SCOTUS doing? Do they not see they are undermining 250 years of creating a more perfect union and unraveling the government and destroying the country: for what? One question: how many Catholics are on the court right now? I'll tell you: six. That doesn't seem right does it? How the f did this court get so skewed? Religion is the termite in this government, trust me those people are the ones who would see America destroyed and built back up in a white male god's image.
As in Judaism, I assume Catholicism has different groupings with opposing views on many issues.
Unfortunately, it seems JD Vance converted to whatever contingent believes serial lying and inciting for his cause are holy acts.
A friend calls himself a “social justice Catholic”, to be distinguished from (in his words) a “pre-Vatican 2 Catholic” - referring to the liberalizing reforms of the Second Vatican Council of the mid-1960s.
Leonard Leo and his Federalist Society masterminded the nominations of five current Catholic Supreme Court Justices responsible for decisions that favor the right wing political agenda. It’s fair to observe neither he nor his co-religionist Court picks are in the “social justice” camp.
Sadly, I have zero confidence that the Roberts Court will uphold Article 2 of the Voting Rights Act. Roberts is one of the major apostles of the Heritage Foundation's Project 2025 and has been working toward a unitary (plenary) presidency for years.

I’m not one either, but the Rx might be a huge shot of Ivermectin. I understand it cures everything.
What about some bleach, you know, injected somewhere, how does that sound? To clean it out, we could try that? (paraphrased)

Well it does supposedly kill off worms, fleas, and other animal parasites so you could be right!
Why does karma have to wait so fucking long for pay back?

A few thoughts …

Thanks, Mary. You fill a huge hole left by the vacuous commercial press.

Great analysis!!!
