Thanks Mary, for the content, overwhelming as it is. It is hard for me to even formulate a starting point to discuss. But, if I had to, I would say this feels so much like the trajectory of the Ukranian war, (which if, readers haven't noticed is in its third year and 342nd day). If I could sum up the whole conflict in one sentence, it would be "The West watched Putin target and kill civilians, commit atrocities, kidnap thousands of children and take land that was never his to take; all the while the West wrung its hands about how not to upset Moscow".

Now... in the previous sentence, substitute the word Putin for Trump, and Moscow for Washington.

The only caveat I would inject would be in the absolute number of suffering humans in Ukraine.

But the methodologies are unmistakable in both cases.

I think this is where we are. And if Ukraine is an example, we should consider how difficult it is to reclaim territory once it is lost...

Your take on the West during Putin's war is spot on. A fundamental responsibility in our country's psyche is to fight for a democratic ally against a despotic foe. It is built into our moral compass by the sacrifice of millions of American soldiers from Gettysburg to Normandy, etc. The suffering of our friends, the people of Ukraine, is unbearable, as Putin just bombs the shit out for the country and sends his people into a bloodbath. Why? Putin's war and Trump's obsequiousness is deeply, instinctively wrong.

Keep writing, keep yelling, keep moonbeaming. Minneapolis had a general strike and it drew massive amounts of people (50 - 100K) into the street. At the same time, 800 businesses racked up a day's loss. That is sacrifice and that feels better than anger. This is exactly the thing people are hungry for - contributing to something meaningful.

Take Minneapolis's strike and multiply it by 100 American mid-sized cities. Then imagine the strike in 10 cities of one million or more. Then stop and think if just 10% of businesses closed in 20,000 American towns.

That is a big fn deal. And I'm being conservative with my calculations, not pretending to know the final number. But let me tell you, it would be ... massive.

Let this truth Mary Geddry documents be spread like wildfire by all means possible: the Trump regime is deploying advanced surveillance technology, including real time facial recognition systems, to identify Americans who are peacefully exercising their constitutional rights to assemble, protest and document public acts of government officials - and then arresting them or summarily denying/canceling routine government services and benefits as targeted retribution.

This is government enacted tyranny and treason. The overarching goal: to ensure MAGA retains power.

I believe the correct term for these acts is coup.

This is a detailed, frightening analysis. To think you become an enemy of the state because ICE has your picture. They have a huge list of people who will be missed when kidnapped by ICE. This is why we have to have a HUGE protest.

Wow, had I known, that might have warranted a trip from the mid Willamette Valley to your south coast. Who knew the other side’s rallying cry would be “We have a big database”! A-holes.

Again, excellent analysis. I need to comment on the 2 week government shutdown. Glad it worked so that we can let our representatives know that we will not accept anything less than a complete defunding of All ICE activities! We do not want a 'partial' compromise. We need to defund the DHS especially in light of the massive expense and plans that would necessitate the building of planned warehousing of all those arrested and expected to be arrested by ICE. Already Massive Warehouses have been bid on in at least 5 or more states. We already know that if the jails exist, they will be filled. If not be immigrants, legal or not, but by whomever the next minority or unhoused citizen finds on the short end of the stick by either trompas or his loyal followers who have a hatred of special classes of people. In the running are those ranging from mentally, intellectually, physically, or spiritually 'different'. All of us might find ourselves, as many already are, of being domestic agitators and being catalogued just for showing up at a rally. Who do you think will fill the new dumping grounds? If they get any funds at all through the DHS, they will make these detention centers happen and wealthy buyers will run them and the taxpayer will pay them to be manned. Yes, "Manned", women will not be able to even work, don't forget. Their job is having babies.

Yes, this sounds harsh, but I am angry but at the same time glad that all the ugliness of our political system has come to light. Now is the time to start shutting down the systems, one at a time. DHS doesn't need jails, "holding camps", or ICE. I am completely opposed to funding for DHS as long as it has ICE under its jurisdiction. I will only accept that ICE no longer belongs under DHS. And that ICE Not be Funded at all! I have called representatives to tell them this, I wish everyone did.

What does this mahvalous new Executive Order DO, as opposed to trump's blathering about it? I'll go look for it. Dear Lord, was the blather about celebrating Auto Racing? Will the Grad Prix knock off the random national guard still picking up trash? Can we be sure all ICE agents will attend to boost the crowds and just pray someone's brakes get hinky?
