You are the most quotable writer I'm currently reading for funny, during a tragedy Shakespeare wouldn't have dreamed. I'm picking this because it's simple and made me smile: "a scenario about as likely as Trump turning down a cheeseburger or finishing a sentence without lying."

Re: Greenland. Thirty years ago when I started to pay attention to Climate Change, then typically called Global Warming, until an idiotic senator held up a snowball to disprove the notion, I learned how "tipping point" is used in science and it often is not pretty. It ain't pretty when it comes to sea level rise. If all petroleum fueled cars, planes, and ships stopped moving for a few years, the oceans are still going to go up. Some tipping points have been reached.

I listen to music when I read. I turned it off when reading you, so as not to miss anything.

Thanks, Mary

Well here’s to an icy tidal wave that swamps Mara Lago and disappears the golden throne of our wannabe king.

Your photo of glacial melt is a good metaphor. The issue, the increasing fresh water (from glacial melt) decreases salinity of the cooling Gulf Stream and may eventually disrupt the Atlantic Meridional Overturn Current (AMOC). The AMOC is the current allowing colder northern water to flow south, warm, and return north. The counterintuitive is Europe would experience another Ice Age since the warmer Gulf Stream would stop. The AMOC is interesting but to the metaphor. The inertia of things we do.

As I view the current state of affairs, the SCOTUS Trump v Casa ruling, the latest, is melting the “ice pack” of our laws and governance. The consequence, like the AMOC, is not immediately seen. But the inertia is there. Or, now trite: how did you go bankrupt? Slowly then all at once.

Keep up the good work Mary. Meanwhile, I’ll keep rearranging the deck chair on the Titanic.

Mary, I think your words rang true for me today as I participated in a rally in Oregon…

“ If we want a future where people can live with dignity, we will have to take it, together, before the water rises.”
